Victoria Harbour by Mrs. M. Gervais St. John's _United Church Women held its monthly meeting in the Church Hall recently, with 21 members and two visitors attending. President Mrs. Vera Keetch opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. Mrs. Jean Tessier then introduced the guest speakers - Rev. Kim Warne and Mrs. Lorna Marr of Midland. They spoke on events at the general council in Halifax especially regarding the subject of Infant baptism, what baptism means, and the seriousness of offering a child for baptism. This was followed by a discussion on the sub- ° ject. Mrs. Jean Howe thanked the speakers and Mrs. Keetch thanked Mrs. Tessier and the Groupette. She then conducted the business part of the meeting. Minutes, roll call and reports were given. Mrs. Violet Lidstone read an article on stewardship called "Time". It was announced that returned missionaries Rev. Maldwyn and Mrs. Minnie Roberts will speak and show pictures on the Argentine at Vasey United Church on Saturday~ evening at 8 p.m. with a social hour to follow. They will be at St. John's Church at, next Sunday service. Coffee hour will follow the service. Plans are being made for a Chicken Barbecue to be held at St. John's Church on July 4. Glenn Mount of Welland visited his mother Mrs. Albert Mount last week. He later was accompanied by his mother who spent Easter holidays wit and Mrs. Mount and family in Welland. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Springthorpe of Scar- borough spent the weekend with the for- mer's mother Mrs. J.E. Springthorpe. Seniors About 70 members of the Georgian Club Senior Citizens were guests of Sunset Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion at their Recreation Hall when they were served a delicious roast beef dinner on Friday evening. Head table guests were Rev. C.H. Carter, Reeve Douglas Jackson and Mrs. Jacksen, Georgian Club President Mr. Frank Murphy and Mrs. Murphy and Legion President Mr. Bernard Leveque. Grace was said by Mr. Carter and toast to the Queen was given prior to the meal. Following the dinner Reeve Jackson spoke on Senior Citizens Housing, -sewer servicing and | Portraits of love Local school children were asked by the Business Improvement Area division of Midland to draw 'their mothers as part of a week long promotion for Education Week. Winners in each class were awarded $10 and those names will now go intoa draw for a family portrait at Watson's Studios in Midland. The pictures can be seen in Midland Town Centre windows, this paper included. An additional feature of the promotion asks that mothers drop a card to the BIA at 298 First St. in Midland stating where they saw their picture. Mrs. Grace Anderson is arranging a four-day bus trip to Scott's Oquaga Lake House at Deposit, New York State from June 8 to June 12.
