Penetanguishene IVI honours handed out Don ee Penetanguishene Minor Hockey held their annual banquet Monday nea: hit ion Penetanguishene Arena. The evening began with the introduction of the head table and the Mother's- Auxiliary who prepared the food for the banquet. At the head table were League President Veronica Cowan, Vice- president Josie O'Hara, Directors Teresa Quesnelle and Rita Hook, Secretary Yvonne Ladouceur and Secretary-Treasurer Elaine Gianetto. Penetanguishene Mayor Ron Bellisle then spoke to those present at the banauet. : The current executive of Penetanguishene Minor Hockey was then introduced and they were Past President Gloria Cowden, Vice- President David Dupuis, Second Vice- President Gary Ronald, Secretaries Pat Roi and Pat Ryan, Finance Chairman Paul Dion and Directors Ann Morrow, Maurice Gianetto, John O'Hara, Ron Marchildon, Larry Banks, Don McNee, Vera Dusome, Reg McConkey and Gerry Hewitt. Prior to the presen- tation of the awards, banquet spokesman Don Tannahill acknowle- dged the effort and work' put in by tthe many timekeepers, referees, . coaches, managers, trainers and parents. Junior D House League presentations were made first with Peter Deacon and Jim Junnie receiving an _ ap- preciation award for the work they put into running that division. Trophy Then, the first place trophy was presented to the Blouins and Penetanguishene Motor Sales teams who tied for the top sopt. Next came the presentation for Junior C House League play, as looked after by Bert Mason, Brian McConkey and Brian Forget. First place trophy for that division was then presented to the coach and captain of Penetanguishene Legion, that trophy being the Grew Boats Trophy. Most Valuable Player for that division was Tim Mason for which he received an award and he was joined by Raymond Dupuis as the Most Sportsmanlike Player, and Shawn McConkey as the Most Improved Player. In the tyke division, Robbie Newburn and Pat Marion' were directing things and awards in that division went to Chris Leonard as MVP, Grant Peterson as MSP, Art Duval as MIP and Steve . Lefrenier " Best - Goalie. - ve Novice.> Awards were given to Doug Mundy, Ralph Nattrick, ae ON AI P- emeete + nee Harry Irvine and Mike Brophy. The Little NHL Trophy was received by the coach and captain of the Nordiques with Roy Mundy being chosen the MVP, Dan Charlebois the MSP, Thor Hervieux the MIP and Aaron Brophy the Best Goalie. In the Atom House League, the Nordiques took top honours, their coach and _ captain accepted that award. There were no _ in- dividual awards p- resented in that division, as run by Larry Banks, Gerry Hewitt, Gary Ronald and Tim Hook. The Peewee division was run by David McConkey, Kevin McConkey, Ken Wright and John Jesseau. The first place trophy for that division was presented to the coach and captain of AE. LePage Real Estate woth individual awards being won by Peter Dion as MVP, Tim Dion as MSP, Ed Lacroix as MIP and Bob Stewart as Best Goalie. The Bantam-midget division, as looked after by Reg McConkey and Gary St. Croix was won by Chemical Valley. Individual awards in that division were received by Jeff Leclaire as MVP, Kevin McConkey as MSP and Bob Haworth as Best Goalie. Individual awards in the midget-juvenile division were presented to Brian Forget as MVP, Robert Quesnelle Simcoe Rural Fastball begins May 21 Action in the Simcoe Rural Fastball League will be getting under way May 21 with nine teams in competition instead of the usual 10. Allenwood Allenwood Women's Institute held its May meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food office in Elmvale last week and on hand to entertain were a group of 18 4-H girls and their leaders Mrs. Verna Trace and Mrs. John Knuff. Mrs. Knuff gave members of Allenwood W.I. a report of the work done by the girls, the contruction of either a vest, skirt or jacket and later a fashion show was held. The 4-H'ers staged a skit for their audience and were congratulated by W.I. members on the work they had ac- complished. A total of 13 members took part in the May . program, opened by president Mrs. James Phillips. The program was on family and consumer __ affairs, headed by Mrs. Truax. During the business portion of the meeting, three delegates were chosen to attend the District Annual to be held in Elmvale May 26. Major peewee action, as supervised by Bert Dubeau and George Restrup, saw Steven Jackson claim the MVP Award with David Restrup getting the MSP award and Wayne Robillard getting the MIP award. David Dupuis, Aimee Gignac and Pat Gignac were responsible for the success of the major bantam division and the MVP was Darryl Belcourt with Shawn Marchand as the MSP and Paul Ryan as the MIP. In major midget action, David Robillard was MVP with David Gianetto as MSP and David LeFaive as MIP. That division was watched over' by Maurice' Gianetto, Danny Gianetto and Larry Cowan. Team crests were then handed out to team representatives to be distributed among the boys. David McConkey was chosen the Coach of the Year by the members of the Penetanguishene Minor Hockey System. Closing off the presentations was the G. Therrien Award presented to the executive member considered to have contributed the most to the Penetanguishene Minor Hockey System, Reg McConkey winning that honour.
