Dear Sir: I would like to take this opportunity to recom- mend to the people of this area the work of a great organization - The Big Sisters. I have personally seen Big Sister work a miracle with her "'little" sister. This girl has been given a hope in life that has transformed her outlook and An exciting - learning experience Dear Sir: Midland's on the map! It is exciting to speculate that today in L'Anguila Italy, Toyama Japan and in East Flanders Belgium, people are wearing ""Midland"' buttons. On behalf of "'Upstage One", Bayview's drama club, we should like to thank everyone who made our trip to New York possible. It would take an entire newspaper to list those individuals who contributed their time, money and effort to make our venture a success. However, we would be remiss if we did not publicly thank Mayor Moreland Lynn and Council and the Bayview Auxiliary for their financial assistance. A thank-you to all citizens of Midland who supported our many fund-raising events and to the local businesses and industries who contributed so generously. A special thank-you to Mrs. Dove and Mrs. Daniels who designed and taught all our dance numbers. The choreography was highly commended by both adjudicators in the competition. Finally, a thank-you to those staff of Bayview School who encouraged us throughout and especially to our principal, Mr. John Soden, for his support of this exciting and unique educational experience. At the Amateur International Drama Festival, Westchester N.Y., our students not only gave away Midland buttons and Ontario pins but worked really hard in their performances and always acted as ambassadors for their school, town and country. We all learned to communicate in friendship with non-English speaking people, we learned to be open-minded to new and different situations and we learned how it feels to be proud of being a Canadian. Thank you everyone, for giving us the op- portunity to learn these exciting lessons. Sincerely, Val MacMenemey, John McCallum, Co-Directors, "Charlie and Alice." Wintario thankful for co-operation Dear Editor: On behalf of the Ontario Lottery Corporation, I would like to express our sincere thanks to the people of Elmvale for their warm welcome and tremendous co-operation during the recent Wintario draw show held at the Flos-Elmvale Memorial Arena. The exceptional efforts of the Village Council of Elmvale, the Elmvale Lions Club, the Maple Syrup Festival Association Committee and the Arena Commissioners, as well as many others involved in the organization, contributed to the success of the evening. Their enthusiasm was a fine example of com- munity spirit. I do hope it will not be too long before the Win- tario draw show returns to your community. Yours very truly D. Ross Willett The slogan for Police Week this year is '"You and Your' Police Working Together'. The Midland police force has a policy that allows people to visit the department at any time during the year, not only during Police Week. The department feels that without the help of the general public, the police department cannot function as ef- fectively. We would like to thank all those who have assisted us during the past year and hope that the support we have received will continue. It is by working together that we can all make this a _ better community to live in.
