en sake SAE Poetry weekend returns The sixth annual Great Canadian Poetry Weekend will be held at Blue Mountain in Collingwood June 11,12,13 and 14 this year and poets are invited to take part in what organizers call an "informal celebration of poetic ex- pression". The event will be staged at the Cranberry Inn in the shipbuilding town and will feature a_ special writer's workshop, poetry readings, a poetry and music cabaret, book display and an opportunity for registrants to have material published in the official Festival Anthology of Poetry. Poets-in-residence for the weekend will include Cecile Cloutier, Christopher Dewdney, Gary Geddes, George Johnston, George Jonas, D.G. Jones, Penny Kemp, Robert Kroet- sch, Pat Lane, Irving Layton, Eli Mandel, John Newlove, P.K. Page, Francis Sparshott, Andrew Suknaski and Robert Zend. Festival organizers Barbara Weider and Dennis Mildon confirm they "continue to present the Weekend to the Canadian literary community as an opportunity for participants to be part of an unapologetic exploration of poetry with some of Canada's finest poets". Programme The weekend programme will get underway Thursday, June 11 when Pat Lane will be in residence for an intensive seven hour Writer's Retreat beginning Thursday and concluding Friday afternoon. General registrations will com- mence at 4:30 p.m. Friday and an introduction of the poets in residence, as well as the first reading by three poets and a book display will follow that evening. Saturday's portion kicks off at 8 a.m. and throughout the day writer's exchanges, readings, the poetry and music cabaret and much more will be held. Sunday will see more of the same. Registration for the Great Canadian Poetry Weekend will cost $85 per person which includes registration, participation in seven poetry ac- tivities, Saturday evening Poetry and Music Cabaret, publication in the Festival Anthology, one copy of the anthology and six meals (Friday dinner to Sunday lunch). Accommodation can be reserved in advance. Festival Anthology submissions, which should not exceed 90 words or 14 lines, must be sent in by June 5 and be clearly signed by the poet. The estimate is based on Statistics Canada population projections indicating that Ontario will gain thirteen seats; Alberta, five; Quebec, four; British Columbia, four; Nova Scotia, two; Manitoba and Newfoundland, one each. Following the receipt of the new census figures in the fall of 1982, calculations on the apportionment of seats will be carried out by the Chief Electoral Officer. Actual readjustment will not take effect until Annual fun fair set for HCES Students and staff of Huronia Centennial School in Elmvale are preparing for the annual HCES Fun Fair slated for Friday evening, May 29 at the school. Special features of the event will be an auction sale, raffles and face painting to name but a few. Huronia Parent . Teacher Organization sponsors the yearly event. The last fair raised funds for new gym:. mats, library books and musical instruments. Large objects will be sold at an auction that evening, and bids will be listed on sheets of paper attached to each item in the gym. At 9 p.m., that night, everything will be taken home by the highest bidder. Mrs. Willis room will be the site of the plants sale and Mrs. Tanner's room will house homemade and handcrafted items for sale. Mrs. Turner's class will hold a sale of good used toys and Mrs. Todd and Mrs. Robertson will hold a back sale. Mr. Davies will be presenting the Haunted House Part 2 this year and for a 50 cent ad- mission, children will have the chance to be scared out of their wits. Face painting will be done for a price of $2, or 25 cents for a partial, and a camerman will be on hand to capture the results. There will also be a book sale , bingo and games room and anyone who becomes hungry or thirstyduring the fair will have the op- portunity of purchasing hot dogs, pop or candy. A games room will be set up to test youngsters' skills and portrait drawing will be performed in the library.
