To leave St. Theresa's It was announced at Wednesday night's RC board meeting in Barrie that Sister Zita O'Grady, principal of St. Theresa's High School in Midland for the past eight years will be leaving to Midland, Sister Zita had taught school at O'Gorman High School in Timmins for 17 vears. Sister Zita was raised in Eganville. It was also announced this week that in the A steering committee was established in April 1980 to form a chapter of the Canadian Diabetes Association in the Midland-Penetangui- shene area. Several meetings were held during the past year, hosting many interesting and well known speakers. The response at these meetings was quite favourable indicating enough interest to form a branch of _ the Canadian Diabetes Association. The purpose of for- ming a branch is mainly to bring service and education to the diabetic in the area. With the branch, it is hoped to locate all diabetics in the area and advise them of the benefits of membership Canadian with the medical profession, dietitians, nurses and other health workers in the sarea. Research Another challenge is to support fund raising for medical research, camps, additional programs or _ other projects of concern to Diabetics. This year, March was designated as Diabetes Month. Local liquor and brewery outlets allowed to have coin boxes for research for the month of March. The annual funding function of the Canadian Diabetes Association is not confined to one month. The fact is, funds are raised and funnelled into vital research programs and into health and nutritional § education channels on a year during 1981, the 60th anniversary of the discovery of insulin by Canadian doctors, Banting and Best. Before insulin, which the Canadian doctors shared freely with a grateful international scientific community, a diagnosis of diabetes was a literal death sentence for millions and millions of people in all parts of the world. For example, diabetic children rarely survived more than two years after diagnosis, without insulin, discovered in Canada in 1921, the same situation would prevail today.
