Wyebridge Warriors played their first game of the 1981 season in Vasey last Thursday night, under the lights. Vasey Royals proved victorious over the Irene Quesnelle Wyebridge squad by an 11-6 count, but with the season just started there will be ample opportunities for Warriors to display their talents. Games are every Monday and Thursday evenings, so come out Council makes it all official Midland council, by bylaw, made it official Monday night. One person was very busy entertaining for the week prior to the holiday and the holiday weekend itself. Violet Salisbury was visited by Mrs. Neilson and daughter Vanessa; Kelly Tims and Tina Overland and children, Neil and Kim; Betty and Alan Tipple and sons, David and Richard; and Carolyn and David Cruise and children, Bonnie and Tim, all of whom reside in Gravenhurst. From Orillia came Yvonne VanDyke, David and Bruce Cruise and from Toronto, Elva Ludlow and Bill Dawson. Quite a get- together Violet. Lila and Ray Eakley were also quite busy entertaining visitors as Bruce Armstrong travelled from _ St. Catherines, Saturday, to spend a few days, and Jack, Sheila and Tony Eakley travelled from Scarborough for the holiday weekend. Contact's Consumer Education Program Number 3 will be shown on Cable 12 at 6:30 tonight. Be sure to watch this informative program. Karole Ogden has been hired as Contact's Community Service Order Co-ordinator, duties to commence as of June 1. We would like to welcome Karole to Contact and look forward to working with her. Community service orders will be on work projects that are of tangible benefit to the community and meet a community need. Community work is, first and foremost, a means of dealing with the non-violent of- fender in his own community. A judge may decide that the person ap- pearing before him for sentencing will benefit more by performing some direct or indirect service to his community rather than receiving another form of sentence. Some of Karole's duties will include finding areas of work, supervising such and repor- ling. This is a new program being sponsored by Contact. If you have any questions, we have in- formation pamphlets available, please call. St. Andrews Manor is holding a tea. Included will be a bake sale and a craft table on Saturday, June 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Miss Sadie Couture celebrated her birthday on May 26. Contact would like to wish her a happy birthday and many happy returns. Allan McLean is scheduled to be in the offices of Contact today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Save Dominion tapes for Contact. We would like to replace some outdated equipment. The tapes will go toward the purchase of a calculator and an electric typewriter; $475 in tapes is equal to $1 value towards a purchase price; so you see we will need a lot of tapes. They can be dropped off at the office at 298 First St. at the side entrance. The County of Simcoe Recreation and Cultural Services Committee will present a seminar on Recreation and the Law to be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at Georgian College, Barrie. : The program is designed to provide in- formation on various legal concerns affecting recreation and will be of concern to Municipal Recreation Committees, other Municipal Officials, Community Groups, Sports Organizations, etc. This seminar is being conducted in co-operation with the Ontario Municipal Recreation Association. Please mark this event on your calendar and watch for further announcements. Contact's Big Wheelie Bike-a-thon was a success and an enjoyable day for all. Despite warnings of rain, the morning weather was just grand for riding. First riders left MSS at 9 a.m. and the first to complete the route arrived at Midland Little Lake Park 58 minutes later. Our congratulations to Dan Gilbert and James Moreau. The majority of the remainder of riders made the route in 112-2 hours, including yours truly. Sheila Weatherell was the overall winner for the dinner for two at Andreas Steak and Seafood Restaurant with pledges totalling $400. Sheila has had lots of offers to accompany her to this dinner. To list all of the people to whom we owe a vote of thanks would take up more space than I have available, but to everyone who par- licipated, be it riding, sponsoring, donating food or time or bicycles, a most heartfelt thank you. We were able to raise approximately $2,900 that will go towards our operating costs. Fundraising events and donations make up 2 3 of our yearly budget. The solution to even the most difficult problem begins with the first step. If you have a problem, take the first step. Call Contact, your Community Information Centre today.
