Three vehicles, no people, in accident in Midland A van, a truck and a car, all empty, and parked on Midland's Dominion . Avenue last Saturday evening, were part of an unusual traffic mishap. A van owned by the Salvation Army, . left parked and with the engine running near the Dominion Avenue Milk Maid store, apparently slipped into reverse from park and ac- celerated 50 metres towards King Street before hitting a car. The car, owned by Douglas Fox of Birchwood Drive, Midland, hit by the van, was pushed in turn backwards. The van-car combination shunted into a truck, the property of 234 King Street resident Joe Tang. The car took the brunt of the im- pact; damage was estimated to be $1,800. Damage to the van? $150! Wages seem to be stumbling block in settling new pact Although it has been a number of weeks since Town of Midland's firefighters and policemen signed new two-year contracts with the municipality the story is different as far as Midland's inside, outside and parks employees are concerned. According to Alderman Richard Platt there have been at least seven meetings between the town's bargaining team and representatives from OPSEU whose union represents the above three groups. So far, according to Platt, most of the out- standing issues have been dealt with and "essentially all that is outstanding are wages." Platt noted, bargaining sessions have been exhausting while indicating he hoped there could be a settlement although he wouldn't predict when that could come about. sayscCongratulations!...
