a No cigars by Walter McGilvray Lawn Bowling under ideal weather conditions at the local greens, King Street South at Little Lake, last Saturday, saw the pairs team from Orangeville take top spot. The local club held a mixed pairs event and the greens were filled with 32 bowlers taking part. Bowlers were present from, Orangeville, Markham, Newmarket and as far away as Streetsville as well as from the Midland club. The Midland team of Bruce MacArthur, skip, and Jean Harvey, lead, had second high two games with 50 plus one point. George McCowan and Phyllis Freeman of Markham had the high one game win with a total of 45 plus five points, Hidden score was won by Jim Worfolk and Marjorie Lusk' of the Midland club. Between games, the participants and guests were served fruit bread and tea and coffee and, after the second game, the ladies of the local club served sandwiches and pie. On Wednesday af- ternoon five men's pairs teams journeyed to Tottenham to take part in a men's pairs tour- nament and the team of Ken Cowan, skip and Norman Parsons, lead, won all three games and were second high winners of this event. Others taking part from Midland were; Joe Cheatley, skip, and John Walker, lead, with one game winner; Walter McGilvray, skip, and Ed. Pypher, lead, one game winner; Ken Ellis, skip, and Kay Goodenough, lead; Bruce MacArthur, skip, and Wayne Parker, lead. Also on the same day, a threesome from the ladies section were in Beeton to compete in a ladies trebles tour- nament they were: Helena Cheatley, skip, Elva Vasey, vice-skip, and Bella Bailey, lead.
