Despite having to give up her triple crossing attempt, Nicholas set several records. She has crossed the channel 14 times, the most by a woman, has completed three double crossings, the most by a man or woman, and recorded the second fastest time-for a single crossing on her first leg across at eight hours, 29 minutes. Nicholas was_ recently at Penetanguishene Bay for her outdoor training for the attempt. Nicholas sets records on thwarted triple crossing For the time being, the English Channel has managed to thwart another swimmer from completing a triple crossing, this time Cindy Nicholas of Scarborough. Nicholas, better known as the "Queen of the Channel", was trying for the yet unsuccessful three way crossing which would have made her the first person, man or woman, to have ever completed that feat. Yet, the 23 year-old athlete still set several records in her swim that ended after crossing the channel twice. Nicholas has now made three double crossings of the channel, that giving her the record for double crossings and she has also crossed the channel 14 times, including single and double crossings, which makes her the woman who has crossed the channel the most times. In addition, Nicholas swam the second fastest time for a single crossing on her first leg of the attempted triple crossing, that time being eight hours and 29 minutes. In her triple crossing attempt, Nicholas faced five foot high waves, heavy winds, cold water, jellyfish, lobster traps and ships getting in the way. Nicholas was quoted as saying, "It was one obstacle course after another. But that's what makes it so challenging." It is understood she may try to do the triple crossing again in September. Nicholas was staying at Penetang Bay for several weeks recently, doing her outdoor training.
