At present they are subject to a legislated guideline. John McCullough, the first chair- man of the Simcoe County Board of Education (SCBE) and _ Lloyd LaPlume a long time member of the Simcoe County Roman Catholic Separate School Board (SCRCSSB), favour the idea. Alvin Gravelle, a SCBE member for 12 years, and Mary Jo Quilty, a SCRCSSB trustee, said they do not see any reason for a change in the status Don Hobson, Madeline Hobson, Betty Rumney, quo. Doris Scott, Lorraine Waters, Margaret Rumney, Alice Roberts and June Westwood. The recommendation that trustees be allowed to set their own remuneration was made recently by a committee of school trustees, parents, and Ministry of Education officials appointed to examine the role of school trustees. A school trustee's maximum remuneration is set by legislation. The minimum is $100 a month, the maximum $600 a month, depending on the number of students in a board. The committee recommended a minimum of $400 a month, with each board allowed to add to that amount. The first $400 would continue to come from provincial grants and _ local taxes. Further amounts would come entirely from local taxes. The recommendation is part of the committee's report which has been sent to school trustees, home and school representatives, and most educational organizations across the province for their comment.
