This warning is issued after-reports of serious injuries to two Orillia, Orttario youths who were severly burned when their kite struck an 8,000-volt hydro line. The boys reportedly were reeling in their kite when it suddenly plunged and hit a hyudro line. According to police, the boys would have suffered only minor injuries had they not attached the kite to a metal-core fishing wire. Such incidents have been known to result in brain and lung damage, severe bodily burns, and even death. "Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada's Hazardous Products Act prohibits the sale of kits with electrically conductive strings attached," Mr. Ouellet notes. 'However, in the case of home-built kits, all we can do is warn of the dangers in using this type of material." The Minister adds that as a necessary precaution, kite flyers should stay completely clear of all hydro and other overhead wires when flying kites. Yellow Bird alternative for shoppers, manager says The Yellow Bird Auction and Market is an alternative form of shopping that manager Patricia Mueller is confident will catch on in the Midland area. Auctions are to be held every Friday evening between 6:30 p.m. and 10p.m. The market will be open all day Saturday. The new venture started this past weekend on the Balm Beach Road just west of the intersection of Balm Beach Road and Highway 27. Sixty booths, 30 inside and 30 outdoors, can be toured for free by shoppers. Mueller said on Friday she expected sellers of antiques, furniture, plants, vegetables, flowers, shoes, jeans and baked goods. The market will continue through the winter if enough sellers turn out every week. Operators of the auction and market are John Swan, the son of Dr. Swan, a well known Midland doctor of years past, and Roger Neal, the builder of the Elmvale arena. Their auctioneers are Leo and Kay Hamelin. Kay Hamelin is known as the first female auc- tioneer in Simcoe County. Visitors will have the opportunity to barter with vendors and, most of all, to have fun, Mueller said.
