New station on FM dial Elmvale and area residents have a new station at 91.1 on their FM radio dial, CJRT- FM announced last week. The non-commercial educational broadca- sting station will be available here for the first time because the station will be broad- casting from the CN tower in Toronto. CJRT-FM announced, "The station's main objective is to serve listeners with programs that enrich and inform. All programs, par- ticularly those presented by _ the station's educational department, Open College, are produced to foster learning." CJRT-FM _ broad- casts classical, jazz and folk music and within those categories "a broad variety of selections chosen by music programmers and broadcasters who are personable and knowledgeable,' the station said. The FM station also produces and broad- casts each year more than 40 live classical and jazz concerts Resignation: letter from Dion town expecting As of press time a letter of resignation from Midland's Reeve Catherine Dion had not arrived from Calgary where she is staying, however members of Midland council were advised Monday afternoon that she had telephoned the town to announce she intended to resign and that a letter to that effect could be expected here this week The long-time local law-maker has missed numerous council and committee meetings since she was re-elected to office again last fall, so announcement of her intent didn't come as any surprise. Meanwhile Deputy-reeve Bev Day said yesterday, "I'm interested in becoming the new reeve. This is my third year on council and I have been a member of county council since last December."' The deputy-reeve said Mrs. Dion's resignation will be dealt with once the town receives it. "We'll review the matter I suspect at a caucus meeting we have scheduled for Oct. 26. "Right now it looks as though someone will be promoted from within council and then we'll call an election to bring council back up to nine members. "Certainly I'm interested in becoming reeve. I feel I know my way around county council.'"' Meanwhile Mayor Moreland Lynn said he had received a telephone call last Friday from Mrs. Dion advising of her intention to step down from council. The mayor said he shared the information with council Monday. He said he would have no other comment to make until her letter of resignation was received. At that time he said, council would consider what steps next to lake. Page 6, Wednesday, October 7, 1981 featuring local musicians. Monday night's commission meeting resulted in com- missioners meeting with the airport's most recently appointed manager. According to com- mission chairman Bob Sullivan, Garrison Aviation's chief pilot Ron Schout was _ in- troduced at the meeting as the tri-municipal airport's new manager. It seems Schout was appointed to his new post just a few hours before the _ airport commission met. He apparently replaces Ingo Strackerjan who has been locked in a dispute with Keith Rich, majority share-holder of Garrison. . Earlier this year Strackerjan took a leave of absence from_ his duties at the airport over an internal matter. Since then both Rich and Strackerjan have had separate writs prepared and sent to the commission. It is likely the matter will not be resolved until it goes to the courts. And in a related maiter, Strackerjan has laid a complaint with the OPP in conjunction with the above which is currently under in- vestigation. The airport has had a long history of turmoil as one operator after Airport management seems far from over these days another has taken over management of the airport for the com- mission. And, although Schout was introduced as the new manager of the airport this week, the commission wasn't prepared to do much more than listen to a report he had prepared until such time as of- ficials from Garrison officially announce his promotion in suitable documentation to the commission. No strike SCBE and support staff okay new one-year pact! There will not be a strike by Simcoe County Board of Education's 244 support staff. The action was called off after members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the SCBE ratified a new one-year con- tract. Initially the county school board had of- fered support staff an increase of 60 cents an hour retroactive to July 1 of this year, 15 cents an hour on Jan. 1, 1982 and an additional 75 cents an hour on July 1, '82. The union held out for 75 cents an hour retroactive to July 1 in a one-year contract. Last week following a meeting between both the union and the SCBE before a provincial mediator, support staff met in Barrie to approve the board's latest offer. Two nights ago, school board trustees meeting in special session at the education centre in Barrie also ratified the new one- year agreement. Had the support staff gone out on strike, in that they were in a legal position to do so last Friday, it would have been the first strike by the SCBE's secretaries, audio visual per- sonnel, etc. in the county school board's history. Meanwhile both the SCBE and Simcoe County Roman Catholic School Board are negotiating new contracts with their elementary and secondary school teachers at this time.
