Another Merkley sister, Lisa, lost her first two rounds of the GBSSA title shot after earning a position in the competition in her first year of high school play. The senior Merkleys edged a Thornhill pair 4-6, 6-4 and 7-6 (with a 7-5 tiebreaker) to earn the crown. In preliminary competition, they beat a Markham Secondary School duo 8-5 and a team from Collingwood Collegiate Institute 8- 4. Thirty-three schools competed in the event, the furthest GBSSA tennis players can ad- vance in provincial play after Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools Athletic Association competitions were scrapped earlier in the year. "Insulating the house made a big difference: over $1,000 a year 7 on the | heating bill, and there were no problems with the paperwork to pay for it; CMHC was very helpful.99 Don Parent, Ottawa, Ontario "T've got new windows and a new furnace, and now it's just airtight. This is our home; you've got your roots set in a place and you like it, why leave it?" Harry Anderson, Vancouver, British Columbia. There's one thing you can do about the rise in fuel prices. Use less. CMHC rec- ommends that, if you own or intend to buy an older home, you would be wise to make the investment in bringin the insulation up to standard. Or if you are thinking about buying a new home; be sure to ask the builder about its en- ergy saving features. Then compare the cost and energ saving characteristics of Fiher homes available. Remember, the cost of heating is a very important consideration when purchasing a home. For ad- vice and publications about CMHC housing pro- 'grams and services consult your local CMHC ° CMHC making Canada a better place to Ee See oe "Since we insulated we have an even heat . upstairs and down, and it's made a tremendous difference in the coolness in summer."
