G.B. Real Estate 4, Coldwater 1 Gymnastics Corner by Ken St. Amant Over the next several weeks I will be featuring the gymnasts who will be representing the Hurons club in the Metro West regional gymnastic meet to be held in Toronto Dec. 5 and 6. This week I will focus on the Junior B gymnasts. Junior Competitors This open-age category is for gymnasts 14 or Over on Jan. 1 of the competitive season. The Hurons will be sending two gymnasts to compete at this level. They are Beatty Spencer and Monica Hinrikus. Although this is Beatty's first year in Junior competition, she has had a great deal of ex- perience in Ontario Gymnastics Federation (OGF). Last year she placed eighth overall in the Metro West region. This Ecole Secon- daire Penetanguishene Secondary School student has an impressive background. She has been with the Hurons since the club's inception in 1979 and has competed in many gymnastic meets both at the school and at the OGF level. Beatty has many other interests as well. She plays on the ESPSS Midget Girls' basketball team and she loves music. Her immediate ambition in gymnastics is to make the provincial team and her career goal is eventually to be a physical education and health teacher. The second gymnast who is representing the Hurons in the Junior division is Monica Hinrikus. This Grade 9 Midland Secondary School student has been with our club for three years. Even though this is her first year in Junior competition, Monica has _par- ticipated in many OGF meets before. This talented athlete is also actively in- volved in baseball, badminton and horseback riding. She is hoping to complete Grade 13, go to university and become a chartered ac- countant. Although both of our gymnasts lack ex- perience in the Junior category, we are ex- pecting them to compete at a respectable level. Both are excellent athletes and will strive to perform routines that are well co- ordinated and well thought out. We wish them both good luck for the upcoming season. 2) Gymnathon The Gymnathon is a fund-raising activity to help us raise money to purchase badly-needed equipment. It will be held during the week of Nov. 30 at Corpus Christi Public School in Penetanguishene and Parkview Public School in Midland. The schedule is as follows: Mon., Nov. 30: Primary, Parkview, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Competitive, Corpus Christi, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tues., Dec. 1: Advanced, Parkview, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Pre-Competitive, Corpus Christi, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., Dec. 2: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The setup is as follows: The participants must complete a specific gymnastic skill at various stations on the circuit. The gymnasts will complete as many laps as possible to a maximum of 35 in the 20-minute time limit. Laps will be counted by a judge and recorded. Proof of completion will be signed by an authorized person. Sponsors are welcome to drop in and observe the gymnasts. Gymnasts will be around asking for your help. Please support the cause. Your help is greatly appreciated.
