by Terry Dupuis Not very many years ago a man who used the pseudonym D.B. Cooper hijacked a Boeing 727. With the aid of a time bomb, which later turned out to be fake, he held the jetliner for a $200,000 ransom. Then after getting turned out to be a rollicking action- comedy, a kind of a "Smokey and the Bandit" type of picture in which Burt Reynolds would find himself very much at home. Once I accepted this fact, that I was performanee as a breezy boyish fun-loving backwoods fellow in the best tradition of Burt Reynolds. The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper also offers a welcome change of pace for Williams' co- star Robert Duvall. Duvall has lately starred in heavy dramas like The Great Movie review The Pursuit o f D.B. But the tough sergeant-turned-detective is a determined cuss who won't give up. Complicating the situation is another ex- the money he bailed out of the jetliner and seemingly vanished. It offers new screen star Treat Williams a light change of pace after the heavy dramatics of Prince of the City. Mr. Williams demonstrated his skill as a dramatic actor in that New York police It was a performance which should win him an Academy Award nomination next February. In The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper Williams does an abrupt departure, and comes up with a likable In the movie, over in Viet Nam, Jimmy's mind works. Santini and True Confessions. Duvall is a fine dramatic actor, but it's nice to see him look like he's just having fun for a change. In his new film he plays an insurance detective who is in pursuit of D.B. Cooper. "D.B. Cooper" is a character named Jimmy Meade (Treat Williams). He was a former Green Beret. It turns out that Duvall was his sergeant so the insurance detective has a pretty good idea how soldier who knew both Jimmy and the sergeant in Vietnam. Now a con artist who peddles everything from dope to rope, he has also latched onto the fact that Jimmy is '"'D.B. Cooper'. So he begins a pursuit of his own, hoping to be able to nab the $200,000 for himself. The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper is a fun movie to watch, serving up as it does generous portions of humour and action. Among its' action highlights is a dandy poe Sat POR St boat chase through rapids.
