Police report, Steven Allan Laughlin, 19, of 447 Colbourne St., Midland was pronounced dead _ at (2:25 a.m.) at Huronia District Hospital where he had been rushed after a 1974 compact car he was a passenger in siammed into a tree after it skidded off the road at around 1:36 a.m. The deceased was FIRE They do their part at Red Cross Clinic Penetanguishene firefighters helped a worthy cause On Wednesday. Fire Chief Ted Light and seven of his fellow firefighters donated their 'gift of life' at this week's Red Cross Blood Donors' Clinic which was staged at Midland Legion from 1:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. During that time a total of 411 pints of blood was collected. The goal was 325 pints. "T was quite pleased there were so many of us at the clinic,' Chief Light proudly noted yesterday. Light himself has been a staunch supporter of Red Cross Blood Donors' Clinc. Since getting into the habit of donating blood Light has contributed 34 times at similar clinics and once at Penetanguishene General Hospital which puts him in position to receive a Red Cross Certificate of Merit which is awarded all donors who contribute 35 and 50 times. The next clinic is set for March 10. FIGHTERS riding in the front seat of a car which was being driven by 19-year-old Jeff Zummach of 529 Finlayson St., Port MeNicoll. Zummach- who was first taken to HDH was later transfered to TGH in serious condition suffering both leg and head injuries. Two passengers riding in the rear seat_. escaped injury. They were John Stainton, 18, of 526 Margaret St., Port MecNicoll and Brian Moore, 17, of 251 Scott St., Midland. Both Penetanguis- hene and Midland fire departments were called to the scene when it was discovered ex- trication equipment would have to be used to remove at least: two of the teenagers from the wreckage. Penetanguishene's Fire Chief Ted Light paid tribute this week to the work of his coun- terparts from Midland whose extrication equipment was set up and used removing the pair within 25 minutes of responding to the emergency call. A total of 460 donors showed up to donate a total of 411 pints of blood. This week's target was 325 pints, reports Mary Gibson, one of the clinic's local organizers. Other co-ordinators from the Huronia Branch of the Red Cross were Sandy Boucher, Pat Sherk and Jan Woods. Christmas music was provided by members of the MSS concert band while candy canes were handed out courtesy of A. and P. All donors received carnations from Perrin's Flowers. Several certificates were also handed out to donors who have made 35 and 50 donations' apiece. Next clinic is set for Wednesday, March 10 in Midland and at the rate these clinics are topping their target it is likely well over 425 pints of blood might very well be collected the next time around. This coming Sunday he'|] be playing host to an Old Fashioned Day with Santa. Aside from hosting Santa's visit, Nick and his Dock Lunch staff will be offering the wee ones a horse and buggy-ride. The Christmas party is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday and will continue non-stop until 5 p.m. Chances are there will be other special feature's up Nick's sleeve for Sunday af- ternoon's extravaganza. Council meets on Monday Dec. 21 Next regular meeting of Penetanguishene council is set for Monday, Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert Street-West council chambers. it's anew job for Al Hennin Al Hennin, a member of Midland council, assumes a new job on Jan. 1, 1982. New stamp to go on sale: Andre Quellet, minister responsible for Canada Post Corporation, today announced that a new definitive stamp will be issued on Dec. 29. : The stamp, featuring a Canadian maple leaf and the letter A, is being made available for use beginning 1 January 1982. The new stamp will be sold at whatever rate is in effect at the start of the new year for First Class letters mailed in Canada. This will not apply to domestic Second Class newspapers and periodicals, the publishers' book rate, library books, and educational films. These latter rates will come into effect on April 1, 1982.
