It was the first Canadian Ski Association/ Southern Ontario Division-sanctioned meet of the season, and attracted skiiers from all over the province. CCAA badminton Georgian College will host the 1982 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) National Badminton Championships, March 25-28, in facilities at Base Borden. In making the announcement, College Presdient Wayne Busch said he is extremely pleased that Georgian College has been selected to host this national event. "The CCAA obviously is aware that we have knowledgeable, reliable personnel who are capable of organizing and carrying out this task, even though we don't have complete sports facilities. A total of 64 athletes, representing top Canadian by four Angela Schmidt of Midland fell just short of her goal by coming up with a 24th-place finish at a World Cup Cross-Country Skiing Championship event Sunday in Dliegenthal, East Germany. ; Top 20 finishers in each World Cup race receive championship points, and Schmidt's goal was to score 15th or better. Other Canadian team members scoring points were Shirley Firth (8th place) and Sharon Firth (17th). Schmidt defeated both the Firth sisters in a qua..fying meet before leaving for Europe. Next race for Schmidt is a 5 km. event slated for Saturday in France. i. College badminton players, have survived com- petitions among the eight athletic conferences of the 155 Colleges across Canada. Other national College competitions are being played in Lethbridge, Alberta. Because of a shortage of available facilities in Alberta, the CCAA moved the badminton event to Ontario. Jim Martin, manager of athletics and student affairs at Georgian is heading the organizational committee. MSS defeated Barrie Innisdale in the opening game 39-35 in overtime. In the second game, MSS dominated Barrie Eastview to come away with a 43-15 score, despite having only a 13- 10 lead at halftime. The final game saw MSS come up against the host Barrie North team and they came away with a convincing 58-32 victory. Shawn Davy topped MSS scorers with his personal best games of his career. In the three games Shawn scored a total of 59 points. The entire team deserves credit as their strong aggressive defence created many turnovers' which resulted in a lot of easy baskets. The tourney brought the Midget record to 11 wins and only 2 loses this season.
