Wye Marsh Staff gets an unusual reception by Bob Murray The staff of the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre was met with a wet reception when they showed up for work yesterday. morning. Sometime in the wee hours a copper water pipe in the ceiling of a rear office ruptured sending a torrent of water through the building. Biologist in charge of the Centre, Bob Whit- tam was met by a stream of water pouring out of the building at the back door. Upon further in- vestigation it was discovered that the ceiling tile in the office were heavily damaged as were numerous brochures and supplies in the office. Telephones in the building were put out of commission while some exhibits were damaged in the wake of Sunday's blizzard and severe drop in temperature. Although the water managed to find its way to the boiler room in the basement, Lady Luck prevented what could have been a major catastrophe, by keeping the boilers running and the heat on in the building. Libbi Reynolds, manager of the Centre, advised, the centre would only be closed for the day, but would be re- opened for tours today. The open house which is scheduled for Sunday afternoon is still on. Preliminary estimates of damage according to Whittam appear to be in the $2,000 to $3,000 range, although that could be slightly higher, when the final repairs to the ceiling tile and the pipe are completed. Whittam praised members of his staff for their efforts in the mopping up "the flood."
