i ac.) TS Much has been said about our recent suc- cesses at the first qualifying meet held in Toronto on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1982. I would like to use this opportunity to look at each of the girls who travelled to Toronto to represent the Hurons Gymnastic Club. ARGOS The Argo category is for girls under 12 years on Jan. 1, 1982. The level has three divisions. The Argo C category is for gym- nasts who are competing for the first time in Ontario Gymnastics Federation (OGF) competition. Argo A and B are for girls of second-year competition and who have good ability. We had three girls competing in the Argo C level: Chris Turner, Arlene Merley and Norma Milligan. Out of 22 gymnasts who competed at this level each girl managed to place 10th or better in at least one event. Chris Turner placed eighth on the balance beam witha score of 7.25. Right behind her on the beam was Arlene who placed 10th on the floor with her score of 7.20. Gabi Held, who competed in the Agee B category, ended up placing 11th overall with her total score of 29.80. She placed first in vault with 8.3 and 6th in floor with 7.95. Although she placed 11th, she is only 1.75 points away from first place. She has a good opportunity to make up ground at the second qualifying meet in Midland in April. TYRO Girls in the Tyro B level must be under 14 years of age on Jan. 1, 1982. Lorraine Lacroix and Karen Green were the two gymnasts who represented us at this meet. For Karen, this was her first OGF meet. She placed 10th on the vault, ninth on the balance beam and floor and she placed eighth on the uneven bars. As a result, she placed ninth overall. _ Her teammate Lorraine had a very suc- cessful day. Her score of 7.2 on the balance beam gave her 5th place. She also placed 6th in the uneven bars, 7th in the vault and 8th on the floor. Her total score of 28.95 earned her sixth position over-all and a good chance at making the provincial team. JUNIOR B This category is an open-age one. The Hurons were represented by two top-notch gymnasts. Monica Hinrikus placed 10th on the uneven bars, seventh on the balance beam, sixth on the floor and fifth in vault. Her score of 28.30 earned her a seventh-place finish. She is less than a pOint behind her sixth-place rival and she has a good chance to make the sixth and ti final position for the provincials. S Her counterpart, Beatriz Spencer, gave one of her better performances. She placed fifth in the balance beam, fourth on the floor and uneven bars and second in vault. When the results were tallied she placed fifth overall with a score of 30 points. She was also less than a point out of first place. We feel that with continued hard work, Beatriz has an excellent shot at the provincials this year in Toronto. CONCLUSION As one can see, great gains have been made by our own gym club. We feel that we have a very competitive team and are looking for- ward to our second qualifying meet April 17, which we are hosting. It will be held at Midland Secondary School and this will give the public the opportunity to see the finest from the Metro-West region.
