Penetanguishene Chamber of Com- merce announced last November a pledge a tree project that will result in the planting of a mature centennial forest. Trees range in price from $29 to $140 and the chamber is asking you to pledge a tree and send in your payment before the end of April. Already trees have been pledged by some schools, families and individuals and memorial trees have also been planted. This centennial forest will become a living record of the year's celebrations but also the plan and pledge documents filed in the town's records will record for history your participation of today. You can take part in this history making project by speaking with your neighbours, friends or family members and calling in your pledge today. If you require further information call the town office or the Chamber of Commerce for a complete If you caught the costume fever you may be thinking about entering the centennial gown competition during the July 4 fashion show. The number of calls received requesting descriptions of period hats indicates that Easter bonnet stitchery is occurring around town. The fashion guides of the time describe the bonnet of 1882 as small but extravagant. The brims were small but the coverings were totally fanciful and descriptions include hats with fresh flowers, small stuffed animals and live birds. Feathers, bows, draping, lace and flowers were often combined in one hat and the catalogues indicate that hats frequently sold for over $100 at that time. Catch the enthusiasm and construct some whimiscal hat. The same fun with design and fancy can be demonstrated in the dress a doll competition scheduled for July. Gloria Hitchman is the organizer for this com- petition. Call today for details. "Something Different" the organizer for the quilt competition reports quite a few entries so far in the quilt competition. She has indicated that she is still accepting entries or calls of intent and will doso right up until the actual deadline of June 1. So if your group has been thinking about a spring project why not make a quilt.
