_ ---_ ar shedding pounds, what it's all about by Nancy Lembo Last weekend the Seventh Annual -District Six Convention of Canadian Calorie Counters was held in Orillia to honor the "best losers" for_the year. District Six has a total of 800 members and runs from Sault Ste. Marie, to Collingwood, Orillia and as far south as Barrie, Alliston area. There were 39 Branches competing for awards while 200 attended the convention. From Area 2 every branch attended: Elmvale Countdowns; Elmvale Carrots Sticks, Jolly Georgians, Midland, Pen Trimmers, Penetang and Pen Watchfulways, Penetang. And Area 2 could be proud of its accomplishments this year. The weekend is spent attending various workshops such as Dance Fit, Drug Abuse, Branch Execulive. From Area 2 LucilJe Young, Pen Watchfulway, held a workshop on 'Motivation' which helps to inspire us to keep on trying to reach our goal weight. On Friday evening a gala Mardi Gras dinner was held with members dressed in costumes and prizes were given for the best costumes. Best Dressed lady was won by Nancy Lembo for her flapper dress. Saturday afternoon is the Award Ceremony at which time the best losers from District 6 are honored. Marilyn Charlebois, 55% pounds, Br. 558 Pen Trimmers won from Area 2. Marilyn has lost a total of 65 pounds and also became a star this year. Janet Butson, Br. 558, Pen Trimmers received her Star and also was awarded the Brightest Star award for losing 37 pounds in less than a year. Pen Trimmers won the "'best Club loss per member'? award from amongst 39 competing clubs. Presenting the awards was National President, Pat McLeod, and District 6 Director, Betty Sharpe. Special guests for the weekend were Yvonne Stalke, District 5 Director and Alice Galloway District 3 Director. Everyone attending the Convention had a very good time.
