/t was a very good year for the Midland library The Midland Public Library listed $189,761 in revenues against $175,352 in expenditures for 1981 in its annual report issued this week. In a_ statistical summary, the library noted that it circulated 88,649 books last year (town population was 12,500), and total stock was 35,624. Other stats: hours of operation, 2,860; volumes catalogues and added to the collection, 1,713; .discards, 787, periodical titles, 182; newspaper subscriptions, 7; total membership, 3,335; talking books in stock, 110; requests for books received in interlibrary loan, 410; films used, 853. Chief Librarian Eileen Goodburne also noted the following staff transitions: Catherine MacKenzie resigned in October 1981 as Reference Librarian and Irene Donaldson was appointed to this position, Mary Anne Cree resigned' in November 1981 and Bonnie Reynolds became Children's Librarian. Nottawasaga is One of 14 municipalities receiving a (otal of more than $539,000 in provincial OHRP funding. Adminisiered by municipalities, the program assists homeowners to upgrade their homes, with the emphasis on faulty structural and sanitary conditions, and on plumbing, insulation, heating and electrical systems. Loans of up to $7,500 are made to eligible owner-occupants who wish io bring their homes up to standard. A portion of a loan may be forgiven, depending on the recipient's in- come. Interesi rates range from zero lo eight per cent, again depending on income. For applicants, the maximum = annual qualifying income, after allowable deductions are made, is $15,500.
