---- We 're straight to the dogs It might be a good idea not to allow your cat to wander in the vicinity of Midland Centennial Arena tomorrow or Friday. Not only would it be bad for the feline's blood pressure, but it would also probably cause considerable chain-strain among the 859 entries in the 1982 Huronia Kennel Club Dog Show. The annual event, which includes 435 entries tomorrow and another 424 Friday, will pit dogs of every size, shape, color, carriage and relative degree of handsomeness for the two best-of-show (one for each day) prizes of Budd Watson photographs. There'll be many other awards, of course, and the keen competitive spirit of the owners in this ever- growing hobby have necessitated the careful concealment of exactly who'll be there until late tonight. Some owners, after all, might not be too keen to try to challenge the same foes who've been leaving a cham- pionship trail, so to speak, all over the continent. Entries are down a little, says show chairman Bob Lowes, but there'll still be a top-notch representation from all over Canada and the U.S. The show will be part of a tight circuit, with most owners taking their going charges to Barrie for that town's club show Saturday through Monday and winding up in Owen Sound next Tuesday and Wednesday for the Grey- Bruce club event. "Most people just take it as a holiday for their families and their dogs," Lowes said. The four judges for the Midland show will travel from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Montreal and Thornhill. All 12 members of the Huronia Club plus their children will be involved in helping run the competition, and a few will enter dogs. In previous years, club members were too busy with the chores to actually take part, but this year, says Lowes, some have decided to give it a try. It'll still be busy, the chairman said, but, contrary to what you might en- visualize when you imagine 859 dogs in one place, there's really little trouble. "There are really few problems," he said. "People are in and out with their dogs all day, they're all not in one place at one time. And even when they are -- I've been to shows where there were a thousand dogs in the same place -- the noise isn't a problem. These dogs are well- behaved." Midland, armed with a handful of loans from the opposition, managed a 3-3 tie with Penetanguishene _ in exhibition minor soccer action Monday in Penetanguishene. The host side loaned players to the shor- thanded Midland club in Monday's matchup, as they did in two en- counters last Thursday. On that day, however, the Penetanguishene was even more generous with the goals from their remaining roster, beating the host Midlanders 6-1 in the 12- and-under division and, 3-0 in the 10-and-under' group.
