Junior Quiltys everywhere Mary Pat Quilty embarrassed the boys by firing the best score of the day to win the girls' division of Sun- day's Midland Golf and Country Club Junior club championships. Most embarrassed Whetham"s way Angela Whetham fired a three-round total of 252 to win the Midland Golf and Country Club ladies' section club championship for the second year in a row. Whetham wound up with a seven-stroke lead over Marilyn Richmond was probably Mary Pat's brother, Owen, who won the boys' division with an 81. The only- thing more em- barrassing could have been for 16-year-old Owen to get 18-year-old Mary Pat's prize of a after the final round last Thursday. Maddy English won the Senior Ladies' title with a two-round total of 169 -- five strokes better than Richmond. Jean Hartman won the Senior second flight with 188, Helen Griffin was next at 197 and Kay Lapere was third with 201. Senior third-flight winner was Betty Moss at 225, Sade Mason was second with 226 and Barb Smellie came in third with 236. net in that division with a 67. Runner up in the top Junior flight (15 and under handicap) was Jeff Bales with an 85, followed by Mike Quilty with a 92. Low net in the top flight was won by Mark Larmand with a 69. Larmand, a 15-year-old lefthander, also was presented with an award as Most Improved Junior Golfer of the Year after lowering his handicap to 17 from 24 at the start of the season. Runner-up in the 16-18 handicap division was Curtis Lemesurier with an 87; low net was Rob Malcomson with a 74. Fourteen' golfers participated in the 30- and-over handicap group. That section was won by Sean Graham with a 112, one better than Scott Owen. Scott Dion won low net prize in the division with a 75. More than $500 in total prizes were awarded on the day, with most of the money donated by the MGCC_ spring golf clinics (early-season instructional classes run by Chester Graham, Larry Banks' and Murray Yorke).
