Voices his support Dear Editor: I wish to express a small voice of support for the suggestion that the facilities at "Le Caron" be made an extension of Georgian College. The need for re-training facilities at this time is far greater than the artificial extension of French. The students returning to P.S.S: would be graciously and considerately amalgamated and the town could act in reasonable unison again. Georgian College would become fiscally responsible and the County Board would be relieved of the Premiers "'White Elephant". Sincerely, --Verne Rumney Think safety: OPP commissioner | Dear Editor: is Everyone involved in the business of public safety is concerned about the number of preventable tragedies that occur on our highways on holiday weekends. Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Jim Erskine is making a personal appeal to all drivers who. venture onto the highways this Labor Day weekend. "Make a special effort to think safety", said Comm. Erskine. 'We all need to remind ourselves about driving defensively, staying alert and the fact that alcohol and driving can spell death or serious injuries to ourselvés and loved ones. "Driving in heavy traffic demands discipline, skill and complete attention to controlling your vehicle. "If drivers would take a moment to consider the responsibility they accept before starting the engine of their vehicle, that burden would serve as a constant reminder." Please join all O.P.P. officers in working together to prevent accidents. --J.A. Fullerton Superintendent Director Community Services Branch Fundraiser in the works Dear Editor: Once again the Nottawasaga. Big Sisters Association is sponsoring a Giant Fleamarket for their main fundraising event of the year. Last year's fleamarket was an unqualified success with 80 vendors selling their wares and the Stayner arena was full of customers looking for bargains and getting an early start on their Christmas shopping. Some vendors were so pleased with the amount of sales that they donated part of their proceeds to the Big Sister Association. f This year the Fleamarket will be held (rain or shine) on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Stayner Arena from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. only. Admission is free of charge to the public and some booths are still available at only $15 per booth. If you wish to rent a booth please contact me at either 428-2291 (evenings) or 428-2422 (days). --Maureen Jones 3-D fad returns Nearly 1,000,000 viewers in Ontario tuned in to watch Global Television's 3-D feature "Gorilla at Large", which aired Aug. 17, making it the most watched program in Global's history. Based on an A.C. Nielsen telephone coin- cidental commissioned by Global, more than 500,000 viewers in Toronto watched the feature and that figure almost matched the number of viewers watching all competitive stations in the Toronto area combined. Bill Stewart, Global's Vice President of Programming, said the 3-D feature was a huge success and that Global expects an even greater audience when it airs "'Inferno"' on Sept. 11, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., because the 3-D ef- fects are better and more numerous in this film.
