Cents open hurry-up camp Sunday The Midland Centennials will open their 1982 / 83 training camp Sunday afternoon for a two and a half hour workout beginning at 4 p.m. at Midland Arena. The Centennials will continue their camp Monday (6 to 7:30 p.m.), Tuesday and Wednesday (6:30 to 8 p.m. each night) before suiting up for an exhibition matchup next Thursday in Midland against the Bradford Blues of the Mid-Ontario League. The Cents. under the direction of rookie coach Ross McConnell, will compete in the south division of the Georgian Bay Junior C League against the Penetanguishene Kings, the Stayner Siskins, the Oro 77's , and the Essa (Angus) 80's. Th Kings will open their regular season schedule first, with a game Oct. 1 in Parry Sound against the north division's Shamrocks (north and south meet in one home-and-away set throughout the interlocking schedule), and both local Junior squads will be at it again two days later when the Kings travel to Gravenhurst (another interlocking matchup) and the Cents host Oro. Meanwhile, the Midland Athletics of the OHA Major Intermediate A League continued their camp with an exhibition game last night in Collingwood. They'll open their regular-season schedule Oct. 1 with a game against new league entry Durham Huskies at Midland Arena. Kings sign six veterans. The Penetanguishene Kings have signed goaltender Kevin Steele and five other players from their OHA bronze-medal win- ning team last season plus one other area Junior veteran during recent training camp sessions. The Kings have signed Frank Hall, Dave Robillard, Brian McReynolds, Gary Beausoleil and Brian Norwood, plus John Monague of Christian Island, and expected more signings at another practice last night. Monague played Junior B hockey in Barrie two seasons ago and attended Ryerson College in Toronto last year. Kings manager Peter Dubeau said yesterday that the signings represent "a good nucleus" for the upcoming season.
