Miles Blackhurst zeroes inon Ward 2? seat by MILES BLACKHURST I am seeking election as Alderman for Ward 2--The Town of Midland is entering a time of trial: a shakedown period; an era that will establish what kind of future this town has. At a time like this, the value of experience and stability becomes clear. In a healthy econ omy we would absorb the costs of taking chances and experimental solutions. In a lean economy we cannot. In my five years on council and four on the P.U.C. I have learned how this town works and what it needs to keep it on course for the future. I have doing, time, learned by in nine years that hundreds of wide range of issues. Issues of Protection to Persons and Property; Financial Issues, Social and Recreational issues. There is one area that I would like to change, that is the approach of the town administration towards decisions are made, on a ( our citizens. Kevin Lyons wants another shot at being your PUC commissioner y by KEVIN LYONS As you are of course already aware we are again running to Resp eS Ont onus hee ratepayers on_ the Midland Public Utilities Commission. Our record of good service of the last six years stands for itself. In the position of Chairman of the Electrical Advisory Committee the com- mission has carried out many projects it nor- mally would have subcontracted out. This has resulted in con- siderable savings to the ratepayers. The current project of this type is the upgrading of the service in the downtown area which includes placing the new cable un- derground. Leading the other pole line users to do likewise. This will result in a downtown area we can be proud to frequent. Continuing service to the public includes management of the off- OK government sub- sidies to help reduce the ratepayers overall cost of energy. This was a logical follow-up on our sponsorship of the "Energy-Save"' clinic that was held last year. The increasing cost of energy is of concern to us all especially in hard ecomomic times, such as now, when many are finding themselves out of work. Everything possible must be done to keep costs down. This is our desire as well as yours. Bob Jeffery seeks second term on Midland council Integrity, diligence and a practical ap- proach to municipal affairs is what Robert Jeffery has brought to Midland Council. Integrity--Because he deals fairly with all issues and _ people, regardless of what their walks of life. Diligence--Sees issues through to the best of his ability. Practical Approach--as a working man and home owner realizes the necessity for restraint, keeping in mind that one saves nothing if one doesn't maintain and upgrade what one has. Over the past two years Bob has attended various conferences so as to acquire knowledge and skills with which to better serve his rate payers. As vice chairman of both the public works, and planning, development, parks and Ed Slanisky lists his concerns KOEI OOOO Nov. 6 The Quota Club of Huronia will be holding its annual Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Huronia Mall, Midland. BY ED SLANISKY I am running for Alderman Ward 2 in Midland because: they have spent enough money already on an- nexation so they must quit banging their heads against a brick wall and drop it. Stop phase 2 of their plans for the downtown core. As we only have 10 permanent fireman now and not enough police for the future lets leave them alone as they are the mainstay of any town or city. Forget about spen- ding money on walk- ways etc. and start doing things for our youth and_- senior citizens. There are more problems but lack of space does not permit me to go on. recreation committees, Bob has gained overall,. , first hand, experience regarding the needs of his constituents. He understands that although the little guy makes up the over- whelming majority of the voters and tax- payers in Midland, that others too must be listened to and their concerns addressed. Nov. 8, is voting day and the day which you choose who you want to represent you at council. "It is my sincere hope that you all make it a point to vote and return me to council as your representative." -- Quite frankly, people approaching the Town for help or _ with pro po sia lis "for development are dealt with as adversaries. Our town ad- ministration should be helpful and co-operative and can be so and still protect the community at large. To the poeople of Midland, especially the electors of Ward 2, I offer my experience; my stability; and the judgement that comes with it. With your support, I can help steer Midland through the challenging days ahead. For a man who has an honest de of the people of Midland.
