Victimized by St. Theresa's were, Aurora 15-3, 15-2; Stouffville 15-6, 15-13; Collingwood 15-2, 15-9; and Parry Sound 15-6, 15-8. ~ Collingwood defeated Stouffville in a single game tie-breaker for the opportunity to play St. Theresa's in the final. The Crusaders must have showed up late to the opening game of the championship, since they trailed 0-7 before they knew it. Johnson, 32, takes over from Garry § Forbes of Barrie who became sports editor of the Barrie Banner last week. Johnson graduated from McMaster University in 1977. He was_ born, raised and educated in Woodstock, Ontario. The Oxford County native is married to the former Brenda Gayle Spiker of Midland. The Johnsons have one son, Daniel Morley. Prior to joining this newspaper, Johnson worked for both RCA and Motorola. For the past two years he has free- lanced covering a variety of sports stories for newspapers in Midland. "Artie" has been involved as a coach of the Midland Athenian Raiders for the last five years, and as the secretary-treasurer of the Simcoe Rural Fastball League. . A's meet Flyers by Ron Johnson Midland A's travel to Barrie tonight for the first game of their weekend home and home series with the Flyers. These two perennial rivals have split a previous pair of games this season. Each team has a victory on the opponents' home rink, with Midland suffering a sound 14-4 thrashing in their last encounter. ; For the first time all season, coach Earl Scott's Athletics are reasonably healthy, and should field a full compliment of players to challenge the Flyers. For the Barrie squad, tonight is Kids' Night so the A's will have to overcome not only the Flyers, but probably also a couple of thousand of their young noisy supporters. Game time at the Barrie Arena is eight-thirty. Sunday's return engagement is slated for the Centennial Ice Palace at 8 p.m. Barrie. usual cohesiveness. The boys quickly regained whatever was missing since they came back to sweep the final 15-13, 15-8. Tim Trewin and Brian Quesnelle should be commended for their all-around strong play St. Theresa's are now pointing toward the Ontario championships, coming up in Wind- sor Nov. 19 and 20. Bruce Finlayson's boys won the opening round-robin section of the day-long tour- nament with a won-lost record of 6-2. Along the way they defeated Stouffville 15-4, 15-4; split with St. Robert's 9-15, 15-3; split with Innisdale_ 15-8, 9-15; and swamped Parry Sound 15-0, 15-2. St. Theresa's won the championship by taking' the two-out-of-three series by the scores of 15-5, 13-15, and 15-8. Coach Finlayson attributed the win to a solid performance from all players. Setters John Bald and Owen Quilty kept opponents off guard with a varied quick attack. Marlon Gieseler served exceptionally well and Chris Borsa added fine passing and coverage. Mike McKeown and Chris Lemieux were devestating in their power- hitting. An overall good effort in all depart- ments is acknowledged from Owen Quilty. t St. T's boys garner School in Midland were excited to say the least about their good fortunes.
