Leitz Canada source of power failure Portions of Midland Avenue and Queen Street were without electricity Tuesday morning because of the failure of a transformer at Ernst Leitz Canada Ltd on Ellen Street, a.t Evans, manager of the Midland Public Utilities Commission, said yesterday. Power to homes went off at 5:51 a.m. and was restored about an hour later. Full power to Leitz was restored, with the aid of PUC em- ployees, at 10:50 a.m. Half of the electricity to the camera factory was off during the power interruption. Council meetings were short Midland and Penetanguishene coun- cil meetings, Monday night, were rather short Midland's wrapped up at 9:36 p.m. while Penetanguishene's ended at 9:15 p.m Both started at p-m. 7:30 Midland council will be holding a caucus meeting commencing at noon on Sunday, Feb. 13, it was agreed at Monday night's meeting of local law-makers. Willett "capturing" the escapee. I received a phone call from Edward Moreau at 6:15 p.m. He was quite distressed and, after a lengthy conversation I suggested it would be best if he turned himself in to the authorities. Dear Editor: We in AMPCO are both surprised and disap- pointed to learn of the planned resignation of Hugh Macaulay, Chairman of Ontario Hydro, just when the utility is about to undergo a major positive turnaround. We in AMPCO agree with remarks made by Premier Davis who noted that Mr. Macaulay has worked hard to bring Hydro closer to its customers and to help the utility adapt to changing times. It is AMPCO's opinion that Mr. Macaulay deserves much credit for maintaining the highest level of competence within Hydro, making it one of the most professionally-run utilities of its kind in North America. Certainly he has been among the ablest of Hydro chairmen. Support gratefully accepted Dear Editor: On Sunday, Jan. 16, the Penetanguishene Minor Hockey Association was the grateful recipient of a pledge for $200 from the CKMP_ sponsored Challenge Cup which was played between the Penetanguishene Kings and the Midland Cen- tennials. We wish to thank all the fans who attended, the management and players of both teams and CK- MP for this fine donation. Their support for minor hockey is gratefully appreciated. Respectfully yours, --H. Bisschop President Interest in affairs at low ebb? Six members of the general public, in- cluding two from the town's parking authority, were present Monday night to watch Midland law-makers in action during a regular monthly council meeting at town hall. Alderman Ian Ross wasn't present. According to Mayor Al Roach, the alderman was away on business. Roach also noted Deputy-reeve Claude Buck was ill and was unable to attend. & ular price 'Gdwards in Edwards Village Square, Upper Level 526-2272 | dwards JANUARY Yr > 50% on Selection of DRESSES 33 V3 off 6 SWEATERS Now on special 20% off Two sides to every story He agreed and I advised him to stay where he was until I picked him up. Sgt. Dorion had advised me earlier in the day that surrendering would be in his best interest. I picked Edward up and was on my way to the Midland Police Station. I stopped at Midland Ave. and Hugel (for a stop sign) when Willett came over to the car, opened the back door and entered Ablest of Hydro chairmen Mr. Macaulay's departure will constitute a loss to Ontario Hydro directly, and to the industry and people of Ontario indirectly. We do, however, wish him much success in whatever future endeavours he undertakes, and sincerely hope that his ex- perience, expertise and abilities will be applied in some other capacity in a manner that will continue to benefit the people of Ontario. --T.B. Lounsbury, Executive Director, AMPCO the car with a dog. I advised him we were on our way to the police station to surrender Edward. He agreed this was the best solution and accompanied us to the station. No mention had been made of an arrest of Edward as a fugitive. However it appears to me from your news item that Staff Sgt. Willett actually apprehended an escapee by his diligent police work and couldn't help but let the Press \ind of course the general public) know what an intelligent and brave police officer he is. I feel that a 17-year-old boy who has been in- carcerated in Barrie Jail since Nov. 10, 1982 (55 Days-without bail) who gaining a few hours freedom, is willing to go back to jail immediately, should be given some credit for at least feeling that our system of justice is infact that, judicial.
