d Gold, gold and more gold. Last weekend the Hurons Gymnastic Club travelled to Barrie to compete in the Huronia games. Boy, did we do well! BOYS' RESULTS Andrew Gadd of Parkview P.S. won a gold medal for placing 1st overall in the Level 6 division. Team mate Reid Hindley of Bayview P.S. also won a gold medal for finishing first in the Level 8 category. Loris Ferraro of Regent P.S. in Midland placed first and as a result, he won a gold medal in Level 10. The boys looked very strong indeed. I feel they were the class of the meet. Very well done boys. GIRLS' RESULTS In Level 3 Katie Gadd placed first on floor, 2nd in vault and 3rd on beam. She won the bronze medal for her 3rd place finish. We had 3 gymnasts in Level 5. Virginia Ridel placed 4th on the floor and beam. Jennifer Moreau placed 2nd on the beam and 4th overall. Leslie Gadd placed Ist in the uneven bars, 3rd in beam and 6th in floor and vault. She placed 3rd overall and took home the bronze medal. In Level 6 Arlene Merkley placed Ist in the floor and Jennifer Young placed 4th in vault and beam. We had a very strong showing in Level 7. Adele Lisi placed 3rd on floor and 6th in vault and uneven bars. She finished 7th overall. Margaret A. Bourgeois finished third in vault and uneven bars. She finished 4th in bars and concluded the meet in 5th place overall. Krista Crawford placed 5th in vault and beam and 2nd in bars. As a result she ended up in 4th place overall. Christina Turner finished 2nd in beam, and Ist on both the bars and on floor. She won the bronze meda! for her 3rd place finish. In Level 8 Amy French finished 5th in bars and 7th overall. Sherrie Deschamps finished 3rd on the beam, Ist in bars and 4th overall. Bernice Spencer placed 3rd on the-bars, Ist on both the floor and beam. She took home the gold medal. In Level 10 Norma Milligan placed fifth on floor, 3rd on beam and bars. She finished the meet in 5th place overall. Karen Green placed 5th in beam, 4th on floor and bars and 2nd in vault. She finished 4th overall. Gabe Held finished Ist in every event and as a result won the gold medal. CONCLUSIONS We are extremely pleased with the results of this meet. Out of the 20 gymnasts ae travelled to Barrie, we won 5 » gold medias, bronze medals, 4 girls finished in 4th ake and 2 ended up in 5th. As can be seen, the Hurons had a very successful weekend. The coaching staff would like to congratulate all the gymnasts for their fine effort. We are very proud of them. 2nd QUALIFYING MEET This weekend will see 11 gymnasts travel to Toronto for an important meet. We are hoping that we can qualify 3 or 4 gymnasts for the upcoming Provincial Championships in May. The gymnasts who are travelling to Toronto are: Bernice Spencer, Sherrie Deschamps, Christina Turner, Krisa Crawford, Amy French, Norma Milligan, Gabi Held, Arlene Merkley, Karen Green, Beatty Spencer and Khrisa Hall. GYMNASTICS CALENDAR Sat. March 12--2nd Qualifying Metro-West gymnastics meet in Toronto for the girls. Mon. March 14--Last night for the Kin- dergym program. Wed. March 16--Last night for the Developmental program. Thurs. March 17--Last night for the Advanced program. ; Fri. March 18--Last night for the Competitive and pre-competitive section. 62nd annual meeting of YMCA set Austin Matthews, chief executive of- ficer of the Midland YMCA, today an- nounced that the Association's Annual by DENNIS BRABANT Twenty-three men turned out for the monthly mens tournament on Sunday, March 6th at Knight Haven Lanes. Jules Marion rolled 1325 for 5 games to capture the $60. first prize. Other money winners were Peter Lacroix (1258), Maurice Lacroix (1242), Wayne Garraway (1223) and Remi Maurice with a high single of 304. Regional round of the "210 & under" tournament was run at Bayshore Lanes on Sunday, March 6 with six teams participating in the five game event. Points were awarded on the match play basis with one point for a bowler's win over the bowler on the opposing team and three points awarded for the team for a total of eight per game. Our local bowling association team started off with a sweep in the first game and were in the running until losing to the top team in the fourth game. The team ended up finishing 3rd with 24 points behind Barrie (32) and Orillia (29); Members of our team were Sue King, Rose Jordan, Marg Bergie, Stan Secord and Paul Lafreniere who each received a silver serving tray for their efforts. Midland-Penetanguishene Five Pin Bowling Association will be running: a "300 Classic' tournament this year on March 27. All members of the association who have bowled a 300 with or without handicap before March 1 have qualified for the tournament. Due to the large number of bowlers eligible, the tournament will be conducted in two shifts at both local bowling alleys making it a big tournament. Cost to enter is only $5. and lots of prizes will be given out. Fifty-two Midland bowlers signed up on the first 2 nights of registration. It appears the tournament will have a large turnout so sign up now. Winners in the Booster Club draw for March 4th were: Tom Sauve $60. (No. 76) and Rose Jordan $40 (No. 49). AROUND THE LEAGUES Alan Quesnelle rolled a 361-895 triple in Port MeNicoll mixed league action recently. Gerry Vandervelde of the Tues. 7-Ups rolled a 323 in mixed league action while Rodney Todd rolled an 837 triple and Mike Diver rolled a 320-804 triple in Midland Industrial League action. abies, Local calls Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. Purpose of the meeting is to conduct necessary associ- ation business for the year just completed. This will include reports from the various program departments, and a report of Camp Kitchikewana_ op- erations for 1982.
