ae A i BC AICO LBs Movie review Easy money Dangerfield has field day by TERRY DUPUIS Comedian Rodney Dangerfield has a field day in his second theatrical film, called Easy Money. The nightclub and television comic made a smashing screen debut in Cad- dyshack some 3 summers ago. In that one he played the role ef an uncouth self-made millionaire who scandlized the snobbish members of-an elite country club. In Easy Money Rodney is playing the role of a working-calss man who has an opportunity to become an instant millionaire. In the story he has a wealthy mother-in-law who dies. At the reading of the will it is revealed that she will turn the profitable department store over to him and his family on one condition: that he give up smoking, drinking, gambling, and trim his waistline. If he does these things, then at the end of the year he will gain his inheritance. Rodney's mother-in-law had always disapproved of his uncouth manners and constantly berated her daughter for having married such a person. And she was con- stantly trading instults with her son-in-law. dying and promising Rodney the family fortune she just might succeed in getting him to reform. But Rodney 'eels that to give up all his vices all at once is asking too much of him, even for a million dollars. However, his wife and daughter badger him into it. Much o1 the movie is given over to Dangerfield's attempts to *refrom and gain this '"'easy money". Another source of homour in the movie is that he is being constantly tempted to indulge himself by his nephew, who stands to inherit the store himself if Rodney fails in his self-reformation. Rodney Dangerfield has based his career as a comedian over the years with the trademarked complaint that he never gets any respect. He continues this tradition in Easy Money as he gets no respect from any of the other characters, including his wife, his daughter, his best friend, his son-in-law and especially his mother-in-law. Geraldine Fitzgerald, by thé' way, has a tremendous role as his wealthy mother-in-law and she plays it to the hilt. The verbal "sparring between her and Dangerfield are hilarious. Joe Pesci, who played Jake La Motta's brother in Raging Bull, also has a good supporting role as his best friend. But Easy Money easily belongs to Rodney Dangerfield, who is seldom of the screen. In the few scenes where he is missing, the pic- ture is not nearly so funny. One of the funniest scenes in the movie to me was when he goes with a couple of his friends to bet some money at the racetrack. As they prepare to pull into a vacant spot at the end of the parking lot, a sportscar full of loud jeering teenagers cuts in ahead of them. The undaunted Dangerfield merely uses his van to push the whole carload of kids into a ditch. For their efforts the Mini Oilers received beautiful gold medals while D.L. Charlebois received silver medals. Congratulations to both teams. In the consolation final between Ron Asselin Insurance and Bourgeois Cougars, the Cougars ended up champions. This series only took two games to decide as Bourgeois won both games handily, with the second game ending up 11-5 for the Cougars. Congratulations to these teams who battled hard in the finals. All of the teams in each division did not receive their crests due to their unavailability at the moment. They will be delivered to their coaches upon their arrival and then delivered to the players. This has been an extremely -- successful season and many people must be thanked, such as the sponsors, the referees, coaches, parents, and most of all the players.
