And the winners are... As of Saturday (June 16) muskie are fair game for anglers. Although many anglers hold off fishing muskie until Autumn winds start to blow a few will fall prey during summer months. Radio tagging of Ontario's largest game fish by the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Port Severn area has shown these fish do not wander as far as many fishermen may think. In an attempt to find and plot spring muskie nurseries fish tagged during the previous fall remained in the same approximate area. With this information it's just possible a few muskies could be caught earlier. And What About Anglers Licence The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters has sent a proposal to the Ontario Government requesting a resident angling licence. In survey after survey the OFAH has found anglers in the province are more than willing to purchase a licence. At the Toronto Sportsmen Show 87 percent were in favour and a survey in Northern Ontario showed 76 percent were also in favour of an angling licence. At the present time the proposal is asking ors ~ fora five dollar fee for anglers from 16-64 ry years of age. iy ia A complimentary licence or letter of authority be issued to persons who are blind. permanently disabled (paraplegic), or otherwise incapacitated and under in stitutional care. In the proposal all profits vould be used to rehabilitate the deteriorating fish stocks in the Province. This seemed to be the main concern for those against angling licences. Those who are against wanted monies to go back into fisheries not other agencies of the government. Under this new proposal profits would be used in fisheries. I see no reason for turning down this proposal but then I'm not in government. Derbies and More Derbies With bass season opening on June 30, local derbies will be in full swing July Ist. The Penetanguishene Rotary Club will have four fish in the swim worth $25,000 each. Entries must be purchased before July 1, with a $15. price tag on them. Of course the oldest derby in Canada will kick off July 1. The little Lake Bass Derby with its field of champions will kick off at 6a.m. and come to an end al 6 p.m. Derby organizers have asked thal boats be pul in at the swing area below the Indian Village.
