Major boating magazine's test team comes to town PAUL SANDERSON Midland's Express Yachting, builders of the new Express 35 performance sailboats, played host Friday to a special boat test team from Canadian Yachting, Canada's major boating magazine. Eleven Express 35s, designed by Midland resident Steve Killing, have been sold after construction in the firm's Victoria Street shop since their introduction last Autumn. Vice-President Bill Goman predicts, "In terms of sales, the 35 will probably be the most significant boat we build." Depending on options, these fast but elegantly appointed sailboats retail for between $90,000 and $100,000 each. The Canadian Yachting test team spent almost the entire day sailing and examining "Colaba'"' in the waters off Wye Heritage Marina, to evaluate if the boat, "does what it is supposed to do." Light winds in the morning left the team curious as to the boat's sailing performance. But Goman reports, after the fog cleared and the wind piped up in the afternoon, a second sailing trial put smiles on the faces of the Toronto reviewers after a, "successful boat test." Unfortunately, both Goman and other boaters will have to wait until the spring to find out what Canadian Yachting really thinks of their boat. After a detailed analysis of their findings, the magazine will publish their reports, with pictures, before next boating season.
