At last Wednesday's early morning meeting, the eight member Business Improvement Area Board of Direc- tors, BIA Manager Liz Downer, and Town of Midland Council Representative Claude Buck agreed to create a new Tourism Com- mittee. The three person committee will be assembling a promotional package to encourage more business from bus tours carrying regional, national, and foreign visitors. Downer first became aware of this, "potentially very lucrative market,' at September's annual meeting of the Huronia Tourist Association where several bus tour organizers expressed interest in Midland's attractions. Although Allan Howe, from the Travel, Trade, and Convention Service of the Provincial Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, voiced some valid criticisms aspects of Huronia's' tourist facilities he did offer the services of a govern- ment consultant to help pS eand much more " RECREATION Ontario Page 2, Wednesday, December 12, 1984 Historic Naval and Military 4 Establishments we (1817-1856) End of Church St., Penetanguishene Sat., & Sun., Dec. 15 & 16 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. FEATURING: eHorse-drawn Sleigh Rides eChristmas Choirs eToy making @19th Century Role-playing eSnowshoe/toboggan races Co-Sponsored by Establishments Heritage Association! The BIA Christmas season brings threats to child safety "'Christmas brings temptations to many parents, while visiting with neighbours or com- pleting last minute shopping, to leave small children unattended for short periods," says Fire Chief Hal Belfry. "At the same time, decorations, trees and wrapping paper bring an increased threat of fire danger unless constant care is exercised."' The Fire Chief urges all parents to recognize the fire danger of this season, and not to leave small : children alone in the home for a moment. He points out that the Criminal Code of Canada for- { bids such action which endangers the life or health of any child under the age of ten years. Parents are further reminded that under certain conditions a Christmas tree can be ignited by a single match to burn furiously to charred wood in a few seconds. Care must be taken to keep butts of natural trees immersed in water and to ensure that the tree itself does not obstruct access to a door or window. Families are also urged to review their home fire-escape plans for a quick exit in an ememrgency. FIRST, KILLED THE BOTTLE...
