by ALLAN MCLEAN Allan McLean comes to provincial politics after long service at the municipal and county levels of government, havingbeenfirst elected to public office in 1963, to Oro council. In subsequent years he was elected as deputy- reeve, then reeve of Oro Township. In 1980, he became warden of Simcoe County. Possessing a keen interest. in the land, McLean purchased his first farm in 1959 and | currently has a 200 acre dairy farm very near his birthplace in Dalston, north of Barrie. He is-past director of the Simcoe County Holstein Association, past chairman of the Conservation Authority of Ontario for the Central Region, and past chairman of the Nottawasaga Conservation Authority. McLean was elected to the Ontario Legislature for Simcoe East in 1981 and has been a member of many House standing committees, including those on ad- ministration of justice, proceedural affairs and general government. Premier Davis appointed him chairman of the standing -Flec tion@= NMicLean's tenure in _ public iife, a plus committee on general government and to the post of duputy whip in 1983. Premier Frank Miller elevated McLean to the Executive Council or Cabinet of Ontario by naming him Minister Without Portfolio and Chief Government Whip in February, 1985. As chief government whip, McLean is in charge of the government caucus office and government members' service bureau. His responsibilities include arranging the membership for all standing committees in the Legislative Assembly and monitoring the activity of those committees. He looks after attendance in the Legislature and keeps all members informed as to what votes are expected. McLean now sits as a member of the board on internal economy and the Legislative planning committee. An active Shriner and avid sportsman, he enjoys boating, hockey and fishing. McLean is married to the former Marjorie Blythe of Midland, and has four children, Gary, Nancy, Sandra and Patsy. They now make their home in Orillia.
