Extended care beds to be increased Senior residents of Sunset Manor, a municipal home for the aged in Collingwood operated by the County of Simcoe, will benefit from a bed con- version project at the home. - John Sweeney, Ontario's minister of community and social services, today announced his ministry will provide assistance to allow the home to convert 13 residential care beds to extended care beds. Extended care beds are for residents who require more than one and a half hours of nursing care a day. "My ministry is glad to be able to respond to the needs of these elderly seniors by providing funds for additional personal care," said Sweeney. "Here in Ontario, we are commited to providing quality care for our senior citizens." Once the conversion project project is com- pleted, in November 1985, Sunset Manor will offer seniors 67 residential care beds and 85 extended care beds. "T am pleased that the ministry supports our efforts to increase the level of care available at Sunset Manor," said Anne Monkman, Chairperson of the Social and Family Services (Home for the Aged) Committee. "This announcement is great news for those seniors who require additional nursing, medical and personal care." Massage: drugless therapy with no side effects by PAUL SANDERSON Massage means many things to many people, but for Penetanguishene's Nancy Harrington it's a drugless therapy, with no side effects, that "helps the body heal itself." Since February Harrington, a registered massage therapist licensed under the Drugless Practicioners' Act, has been providing her clients with an effective means of relaxing, and relieving their headaches and tension. In preparation for her provincial exams, she spent 1,560 hours at college learning the techniques and theory of Massage therapy: a remedy she likens for "physiotherapy without the machines." A body massage makes you healthier, claims Harrington, by increasing both lymphatic flow and circulation in general and it feels "'wonderful."' Harrington maintains a professional and "clinical"? atmosphere in her workplace at Glenne's Coiffure in Penetang. The slim and athletic therapist normally sports a white smock at work, and routinely collects a case history from her clients, many of whom become repeat customers. Massage __ therapy sessions, by appointment only, can be arranged through Glenne's Coiffure at 549- 2274.
