MUNICIPAL LECTION UPbate85 Pat Forget aims for aspot on Penetang town council PAT rons I was born and raised in Penetanguishene coming from the Leroux family of five generations. I left Penetansuishene after my hig!: school years to live in three surroun- ding towns over a period of time. I returned to live in Penetanguishene four years ago in 1981. I have four children, the youngest still lives at home and_ attends ESPSS high school. I obtained a diploma as a Registered Nurses Assistant in 1973 and Bilingual ~Stenography and Administration in 1980. I presently hold a position with the North Simcoe Catholic Family Life Centre as Administrative Assi- stant and have been working there since October of 1981. This Agency provides counselling services and community involve- ment to the public of the North Simcoe area in French and in English. Iwas a member of the Jaycettes in Owen Sound from 1973 to 1975, the Huronia Han- dicapped Association in 1981 and the Penetanguishene Chamber of Commerce, from 1982 to 1985 holding the position of President for the last 242 years. During my in- volvement with the Chamber of Com- merce, we have ac- complished many tasks including revamping and increasing the staff at the Tourist in- formation Booth, up- dating of the Chambers by-laws, enlarging Winterama and Sum- merama, the Christmas lighting project and the establishment of a year round office only to mention a few. While working with the Chamber, I have had the opportunity to experience some of the workings of Council and find this area to be in- spiring as well as a challenging field of work. [I feel that a position on Council would provide me with that challenge. I have always been a com- munity minded person and prideful of my home town. I feel that although I am new to local politics, I am a quick learner, a good organizer .and possess the initiative and positive attitude to be able to contribute the best of my abilities to the town. I believe that my proven' leadership ability is an asset. I also believe that Penetanguishene Council has always been a positive one and would provide me with an invaluable experience. I believe that the quality of life within our community is an ex- cellent one and one that should be safeguarded and constantly enhanced. I believe that the citizens of Penetanguishene should be able to look towards the future with pride and dignity' while working and raising their families. I believe that the children who grow up in this com- munity should have something to look forward to and be proud of. My main concerns therefore, would naturally be for Penetanguishene' to increase its industrial and commercial base in order to produce more jobs. Another concern is the continuing development of the Waterfront area and increased accommo- dations as well as a permanent home for Penetanguishene's heritage artifacts. We need to open doors to new industry, new development, new ideas and new people. We, the citizens of Penetanguishene, have a unique style of living. We possess a blend of three cultures, beautiful natural surroundings and a friendly population that is hard to beat anywhere. Therefore, I would like to work with Council on your behalf to maintain and in- crease our style of living to the best of my ability and in any way possible.
