The: winning challenge between runners and per- sonal records will be with the over 50 runners ex- pected to take part in the 13.1 mile race through Midland, Tay, Penetanguishene and Tiny township. The runners, leaving the Midland YMCA at 1 p.m. on the 27th will be placed in one of two categories. Classy for those 39-years- old or under and Masters for those over 40. The half-marathon event was started three years ago by Paul Noack as a special 25th anniversary celebra- tion for Meatland. "'I've been running for years, I love running,' commented Noack when asked about the race. He felt it was a good way to celebrate the anniversary of his business, "you feel so damn good after, it's a celebration," he said explaining the beginn- ings of the now annual event. For the past two years, Chris Wright has held the honours of being the first to cross the finish line, however, Wright and his fellow runner Angela Schmitz will be in Orillia this year competing in the four-seasons competition. Evan Cameron,-~ Scotland's leading marathon runner has recently taken up residence in Midland and is expected to enter the race. According to Noack, Dr. Josef Dolezel will be Cameron's biggest challenge so far. Dr. Dolezel holds the fastest course record at 1:23:25 set last year. Information given to Noack states Cameron has completed half marathons in his natic Scotland in 65 minutes. This would better Dolezel's time by 18.25 minutes. Noack says the rate is well organized and has ex- cellent competitors and he is hoping the public will line the route which travels along Colborne Street from the YMCA to Manley, turn- ing -along Bayshore Drive toward Vinden Street cross- ing over to Sunnyside Drive at Mike's Milk on the corner of Fourth Street. The run- ners will run along Bayview Avenue, turning at the Masonic Temple and follow- ing Midland Point Road tur- ning toward Penetanguishene at Robert Street and following along to Highway 93 going east to Yonge to King and back to the YMCA starting point. "I just hope the people will turn up to see the run- ners and put their hands together and cheer them on especially as they approach the finish line,' Noack said. .
