There was an ex- cellent turn out of members. Pins were presented to Mrs. Zandbelt (President) and Mrs. Newton (Past President). Mrs. Newton entertained with her memories of the past as a member, and thanked her executive for their cooperation during the last two years. Two delegates attended the National Convention in Toronto. Mrs. Kwast gave a brief report on the program. The guest speaker was Fr. Farrell, Director of the Martyrs' Shrine. He gave a very informative talk on the Shrine's history. This year the Shrine is celebrating it's 60th anniversary. A few gifts were presented to members. This included a_ special memento for Monsignor Belanger and Agnes Belanger -- a framed draw- ing of their home in Port McNicoll - as they are Share Shondecti, the prime summer weekend at Midland's Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, returns July 12 and 13 and the '86 edition promises drama and challenge for everyone. An all-new _ screen presentation which replaces the orientation film in use for more than a decade, will be unveiled for Shondecti visitors. Pro- duced by Toronto's Holman Productions, the dynamic presentation tells the story of Sainte-Marie from four perspectives - that of a Huron tradi- tionalist, a Huron Chris- tian, a French Jesuit and a French donne, (lay helper). Inspired by this pro- vocative approach, Sainte- Marie Interpretive and Education Officer, Sharon Armstrong has devised a lively challenge for Shondecti visitors. Says Sharon, "We- want everyone to be part of what C.W.L. closed for summer moving to Midland Bay Woods this month. Fr. Schmid, the Catholic Women's League Director, closed the dinner with wishes for a happy, safe summer for all. See you in September. There are some lovely "thank you" letters on display in the library. These letters were sent in appreciation of the great time these kids had when Tom Kubinek, entertainer, came and presented his comic-magician-juggler- unicyclist act at our Com- Midland to host Rose Show Midland will host the 1986 Annual Huronia Rose Society Rose Show on Saturday July 12th at Mountianview Mall, Midland; on your left on highway 93 as you ap- proach the turn for downtown Midland. Folks who participate in Sharon's Perspectives Challenge will see their Ontario heritage in an en- tirely new focus. As they leave the site, they will be presented with individual certificates attesting to their personal involvement in the Sainte-Marie story. Colored badges will iden- tify Shondecti Perspec- tives Challenge par- ticipants as Jesuits, lay workers, Hurom Christians or Traditional Christians. During the new audio/visual presentation, they'll meet a Jesuit who came to the New World seeking souls; a donne whose function was to sup- port the Jesuits and to build them a secure community in the wilderness; a tradi- tional Huron who views the newcomers with curiosity and understan- dable suspicion, and a Huron who has accepted the Jesuit teaching. On site, the dramatic ex- perience is complemented by the opportunity to meet the players in the drama. John Steckly, a writer and noted Huron linguist, plays the Jesuit Superior, Fr. Paul Ragneneau on screen, and he will be wearing the robes of a priest Shondec- ti weekend. neil Monague and Anne-Marie McCue are native interpreters at Sainte-Marie. Anne- Marie's dramatic role is that of a traditional Huron woman who sees only death and destruction resulting from European incursion into her land. Neil Monague plays the Christian Ouendat who sees the future of his peo- ple resting in co-operation with the newcomers. Sainte-Marie staff super- visor, Tim Braund, is the on-screen donne, and he will be-on site Shondecti weekend. During Shondecti, costumed historical inter- preters will assume first- person identity, assuring visitors of total immersion in the 17th century. Uniformed historical inter- preters wearing 20th cen- tury garb will assist in the transition from present time into the historic past. home SHOPPING DAY.
