Lawn bowling report Midland Bowlers have been very busy lately both at home and out-of-town. Winners of July 8 in Orillia were: Skip Graydon Broad, Vice-Skip Walter McGilvray and Lead Lloyd Widdes. At Stayner, July 9 in Men's Trebles, Skip Graydon Broad, Vice-Skip Ray Goodenough and Lead Les Cowderoy won the tow games high event. Midland's own green has never played better, thanks to the endeavours of Greens Chairman Ken Cowan. Ken's vigilance and hard work saved the green when it was recent- ly threatened by 'grey fungus disease'. On Thursday, July 10, Sandy MacDonald playing Skip, Betty Titherington Vice-Skip, and Kay Hodges Lead, won an invitational Tournament against stiff competition from the out- of-town bowlers. Monday, July 14, our an- nual Herb White Trophy was successfully defended by Skip Goodenough, Vice- Skip Irene Wilford and Lead Sandy MacDonald, and on Saturday, July 19, in an invitational Mixed Pairs competition, the team of Ray Goodenough and Irene Atkin won top honours. Three wins 2nd high by Joe Besse's team from Stayner, two wins high by Bob McNicol of Stayner, two wins second high Ken Cowan and Bet- ty Titherington and one game high to Ed Pypher and Eileen Cowderoy, all from the Midland Club. Upcoming colourful events at Midland Lawn Bowling Club are --- The Presidents Trophy, July 25, and the Sons of Scotland Tournament on July 30. See you on the Green. Visitors and new members always welcome. Annual event rooted in history On Georgian Bay, it's Tecumseth Trophy time again. The annual running of the 12 nautical mile sail- ing event takes place Satur- day, July 26 at the Historic Naval and Military Establishments, Penetanguishene, as part of the annual Liberty Days weekend at the historic site. The race is open to keel and centreboard craft. Competing skippers and their crews are admitted free to Liberty Days celebrations on Saturday. Winners in all three divi- sions take home handsome trophies as well as perma- nent mementoes. New this year are engraved plaques for winners in each of three divisions, donated by Labatt's, makers of Schooner Beer. Labatt's is a corporate supporter of the Sailor's Sunset Sail Training program at the Establishments. There is no entry fee for the Tecumseth, but pre- registration is essential. Entry forms are available at the Establishments (P.O. Box 1800, Penetanguishene LOK 1P0) or at area marinas. For fur- ther information call (705) 549-8064.
