Ladies Powderpuff banquet a great success On Saturday night, the Ladies Powderpuffs Soft- ball League held their an- nual awards banquet at the Athenian Banquet Hall. It has been a busy season for the league as they hosted their first annual tournament in July. Four teams from Georgetown visited Midland to test their skills against our four local teams. The Georgetown '"'Gang Green"' team came out the Cham- pions while our own Burgandy Brats wrapped up the Consolation title. In addition, for the se- cond year in a row, the league sent two teams to a 32-Team Tournament in Midland Town Centre League Playoffs Semi-Final Results Championship Division - Best 2 out of 3 Mick B's 19, G. Last year one of our teams made it to the semi-final round, but this year we didn't fare quite as well and none of our girls made it past the second round. However, we did have a "'great" time with our friendly neighbours in Georgetown. The watchword of the Hockey The Penetang Midland Ladies Hockey League are beginning another season. During the '85-'86 season, the Petras, in their second year of existence, were the "D" Division Champs for the North Eastern Ontario Women's Hockey Association. The team members recently met to plan for the 1986-87 season. The first event the team are sponsor- ing will be a garage sale on September 20, at 8 a.m. at the corner of Maria and Jeffrey Sts. in Penetang. Come and check out the bargains. The next new venture for the Petras will be the hosting of a "D" level Ladies Tournament on November 8, to run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Penetang arena. There will be eight teams taking part from various towns in On- tario. This will be a sanc- tioned O.W.H.A. event and Championship and Con- solation trophies will be awarded as well as M.V.P. Powderpuff League is "to have fun and enjoy the game of organized ball'. However, it is obvious that the quality of the type of softball played by the teams is improving each season. This year we mat- ched one of our tourna- ment teams in a couple of exhibition games against season awards for each game. The Petras would ap- preciate support in the form of donations. for an hour ice time advertising, trophies or suitable mer- chandise and lots of fan support on the 8th of November. Other fund raising will be announced as the season progresses. Also the members have been active- ly looking for individual sponsors for sweaters. Anyone interested in six months advertising please contact Maureen McKin- non at 526-9540. There is one other very important position to be filled for the team and that is a "COACH". Anyone in- terested in teaching, inspir- ing and leading the Petras for the '86-'87 season con- tact Maureen McKinnon at 526-9540. The regular season schedule involves ten games, five at home and five away, and the playoffs which are three out of five semi-finals and finals. BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY!
