Registrations taking place Well, registrations for most groups have already taken place, registrations seem to have gone very well with Minor Hockey and Figure Skating. Having a very good success. Figure skating begins their season on Sept. 29th, 1986 while Minor hockey has already commenced practice for their rep. teams. Both groups are still accepting registrations and in fact minor hockey is planning another equipment exchange on Saturday, Oct. 4th, 1986 from 9:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon at the arena. Our Leisure Master Plan is just about finalized. A few more reports have to be in- cluded in the draft and a presentation made to Council. After which the public will be in- vited to attend an open meeting where the plan will be presented and the public will once again be asked for their comments. It is extremely important that public input be heard as this plan will be our guide for the Parks and Recreation Department for the next ten years. Just a reminder that the "'A'"' team will be hosting a 16 team mens tournament commen- cing Friday, Sept. 26th, 1986 and running all weekend. Come out and see an excellent brand of hockey. They will also be hosting a dance in the Brian Orser Hall on the Satur- day night. So come out and see some ex- cellent hockey and enjoy a very good social evening as well. It is possible that our area will be hosting another Sports Injuries Clinic, we'll keep you informed as to time and place once they have been established. Just a reminder that the pay-as-you-play hockey will commence on Thursday, Oct. 2, 1986 and run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45 to 10:15, the cost is two dollars a person. Public skating will also begin that week on Friday Oct. 3, 1986 commencing at 6:15 p.m. and on Sundays at 1:15 p.m. The childrens fee has been increased to 75 cents, pre school skating begins Thurs., Oct. 2, 1986 at 1:15 p.m. and on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Centennials score big goals Midland Stoneleigh Centennials scored four third period goals with the help of 16 Penetang penalty minutes to tie Penetang Kings 5-5 at Centennial Arena Sunday after- noon in Jr.C exhibition hockey. Penetang led 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes and increas- ed their lead to 5-1 after two frames. Bob Sid- dal stoned the hosts in the first period, while Collingwood's Charlie McArthur allowed just one Midland tally in the middle frame. Co-Coach of the Penetang Kings, Bob Monteith, was pleased with what he saw, stating there's "something to work with" Several of the regulars were left off the line up, allowing the rookies more ice time and a chance for Kings' management to bet- ter assess the quality of talent. Monteith feels he has "a good nucleus". Rick Stevens scampered across the goal line with a Doug Edward's pass, while Glen Howard was successful with 'a two point conversion. Granada Toros suffered their first loss of the year, a 14-0 shutout at the hands of the Illusions. There was no illusion to the two TD passes to Frank Pauze from the arm of John Larmand. Ben Pauze completed the scoring with a two pointer. Both touchdowns came in the first quarter. Rick Dorion continued his march up the scoring ladder by picking up three majors as the Hydro Hawks whitewashed McBees to the tune of 26-0. Trent Maracle picked up the Monteith and Ferry Dahmer, prior to Sun- day night's exhibition encounter with other major, while Pierre Genier was good for a pair of points. Dorion collected over 100 yards on the day. At MSS, E&R Discount Outlaws remained in first place by blanking Dial-a-Movie Strikers 21-0. Pete Robillard, Morris Robitaille, and Ray Gadouray accounted for the majors, while Doug Condren added a two point conversion, and Kent Goldsmith chip- ped in with a single point. In a very well played game, Brooklea Eagles and Destroyers ended up in a 15-15 tie. Brooklea's John Koppenol was the offen- sive star of the game as he romped for over 140 yards including a 40 yard touchdown. Joe Karwacki received a short yardage pass from quarterback Don Meech for the other major. John Pickett connected for a two point con- version, while Koppenol booted a single. Jack Yerek and Roy Freer stepped across the goal Midland Centennials. Cents came from a 5-1 deficit to tie the Kings in the third period 5-5. to victory line for the Destroyers, while Freer con- tributed a two pointer and Bob Thompson added a single point. In another whitewash, OPSEU Ter- minators rolled over the Giants 18-0. Jeff Dunn, Ed McGuire, and Bill Beauchamp all recorded six pointers. After three games E&R Discount are tied for the League lead with six points. Brooklea Eagles hold down third place with a pair of victories and a tie, while the Hydro Hawks, Granada Toros, and OPSEU Terminators are tied in fourth spot with four points on two wins and a loss. Morris Robitaille of the Outlaws holds down top spot in the scoring parade with 42 points, followed closely by the Hawks' Rick Dorion who has 36. John Koppenol of Brooklea trails with 33. R and R Ladies even softball series Penetang R&R Sports evened their best of three Georgian Bay Ladies' Softball League Championship Final Playoff series with Midland G. Wilicers by an 11-9 score in nine innings Sunday night in Midland. On Thursday, September 18, Midland G. Wilicers upset R&R to the tune of 16-9. Georgina Gage picked up the victory on the hill for Midland, while Cindy King in relief of Donna Asselin suffered the loss. Norma Lediard and Janice Holmes each scored three times in a winning cause. The return match on Sunday saw a very close match that was decided in R&R's favor after two extra innings. Dale Butt took the loss in relief of Georgina Gage. Nancy 'Moreau went the distance for Penetang pick- ing up the win. Pacing Penetang's 16 hit attack were Deanne King who was four for five at the plate and Marg Dorion who hit safely three times in five trips. Marilyn Morasse picked up five of the 13 free passes that were issued by Midland pitching. For Midland, Janice Holmes reached base six times, thrice on walks. Cyndi Gallagher was two for three at the plate with a pair of bases on balls. Dale Butt had the big bat for G. Wilicers with a four for five game. The final game will be played Thursday night at McGuire Park in Penetang beginn- ing at 7 p.m. The game promises to be an ex- citing contest as both teams are very evenly matched. Midland will be looking to unseat the perennial champs from Penetang, while R&R Sports will be trying to hang onto their crown by turning away Midland G. Wilicers.
