On Sat. Nov. 8, Drift- wood came out on the end of a7 -4 loss that saw them play somewhat without much intensity. Down 2-0 within the first minute of play, the boys demonstrated a brief com- eback when they scored two goals of their own to knot the game at 2 - 2. Scor- ing for Penetanguishene were Adrian Maurice who scored an unassisted goal and Tim Mason who was set up by Chris Vallee. Owen Sound then replied with two more goals to pull ahead by 4 2 before Dwayne Johnson scored the first of his two goals of the game to narrow the gap to 4 - 3. However, Owen Sound then scored three unanswered goals to put the» game out of reach before Johnson scored his second goal to end the game at 7 - 4. The return match, which was played in Pene- tanguisrene on Sunday saw a similar pattern emerge as Driftwood fell behind by a 2 - 0 score, but not until midway through the second period. Solid goaltending by Scott Galt kept Driftwood in the game and he rallied his team to stage a second period com- eback that saw Francois Charlebois score a pretty goal after he was set up by team mate Raymond Dupuis. Tim Mason scored on a nice individual effort to tie the game at 2 - 2 late in the period. Unfortunate- ly for the local team, a defensive lapse saw Owen Sound pull ahead with just over one minute remaining in the second period. Chris Vallee and Jesse Bazinet combined early in the third period to tie the score at 3-3 as Vallee picked up a loose puck in the Owen Sound goal crease to score his goal. From that point on- ward, it was all Owen Sound, who did the scor- ing, as they managed to beat goalie Claude Vallee on two deflections in front of the net that were next to impossible to stop. The final score in this game was 6 - 3, but the game was certainly much closer than Saturday's contest and Coach Gary Ronald was pleased with the effort that all players showed. A few breaks coupled with a few lucky bounces' may have given Owen Sound the edge in the game, but not in the overall play as Driftwood played well enough to earn a tie.
