4 ba 'y Ne NR Penetang Driftwood Pee Wees in comeback In what can best be described as a good old fashion shoot out, the Penetanguishene Drift- wood Major Pee Wees staged a gutty comeback from a 7 - 4 deficit late in the third period to tie the Collingwood Major Pee Wees at 8 - 8 on Sunday, December 14. Leading Driftwood's oftense were Chris Diesveld and Tim Maheu who both recorded four points in their team's total scoring. However, it was Chris Marchildon who played hero for Driftwood Let's discuss it Tim Belcourt prepares to deliver a rock as Kent Carstairs readies to sweep last week at the Midland Curling Club. Carstairs and Belcourt are part of the Russ Howard foursome who engaged in an exhibition in this game as he scored his team's seventh and eighth goal, the tieing goal coming with only five seconds on the score clock. The game began with Driftwood drawing first blood as Chris Diesveld scored from Tim Maheu and Chris Vallee at the 6:36 mark of the opening period. Francois Charelbois made it 2 - 0 with only 30 seconds re- maining in the first period when he blasted in a shot from the point after Tim Mason won the draw game with the Keith Williams rink. Howard won that one, but lost in the weekend tankard in Stroud. Williams, on the other hand, won the B side with a record of 5 - 1, advancing to the next round. Pin-chatter-- Annual holiday tourney Several of our local bowlers travelled to Barrie last weekend to compete in the O.V. Open Champion- ships. The bowlers rolled 10 games and will bowl another 10 next week in Orillia in an attempt to earn spots on either the men's ladies' or mixed team that will represent our zone at the provincial championships in April. Andy Rostoks from Knight Haven Lanes rolled 2480 to hold 9th spot in the men's category. Three time qualifier Maurice Lacroix rolled 2384 (15th), Peter Lacroix 2327 (18th) and Leo St. Onge 2317 (19th) to remain in the running as the top 11 men qualify. Cecile Barker is in 8th spot for the ladies and should qualify. Leaders in the competition are Al Snow 2720 and Helen Mac- Callum 2700 both from Barrie. Good luck to our bowlers next week. From the second period onward, Collingwood came to life and popped in three unanswered goals to take a 3 - 2 lead with:ten minutes remaining in the period. However, Diesveld scored his second of the game to tie the game at 3 - 3 only minutes later on some hard work by both Maheu and Kirk Ruston. Less than a minute later, Collingwood regained the lead 4 - 3, but once again Driftwood's Adrian Maurice scored an unassisted goal to knot the game at 4 - 4. Collingwood then went to the offense and scored three more unanswered goals to take what appeared to be an in- YY YY surmountable lead of 7 - 4 with only 3:48 remaining in the third period. Of the five goals that were scored in this time, fortunately for Dirftwood they were able to account for four of them. Full credit must be given to Penetang goalie Scott Galt who made several fantastic saves late in the period to keep his team in the game. His sparkling play lifted his teammates and _ they responded by scoring four goals with less than four minutes of play. Tim Maheu drew his team even closer when he scored from Diesveld to narrow the score to 7 - 5. Then Dwayne Johnson made it 7 - 6 with only 3:24 left on the clock when he was set up by line mates Tim Maheu and Billy Leonard. Not to be outdone, Coll- ingwood scored another goal of their own with on- ly 2:53 left in the third. Enter Chris Marchildon who had had several good chances earlier in the game. With only 2:05 left Marchildon scored the first of his two goals from Adrian Maurice and then he tied the game with five seconds left after picking up a rebound that the Coll- ingwood goalie had given up on Shawn McConkey from the corner of the net. McConkey was given the assist on the eventual tie- ing goal. : Stayner, Ont. for the care and comfort of the senior citizen...
