tea CO Cents tie and win weekend pair Midland Stoneleigh Centennials enjoyed a fairly successful weekend garnering three out of a possible four points by virtue of a win and a tie in Georgian Bay Junior C Hockey action. Both games were come from behimd efforts. In Friday night's contest at Centennial Arena against Innisfil Bruins, Midland found . . themselves down 7-3 at one point before they decided to get their game together and con- nected for five straight and hung on through overtime for the tie. Sunday afternoon in Parry Sound, the Stoneleigh Cents, bolstered by the addition of former Centennials Mark Gieseler and Owen Quilty, and ex Innisfil Bruin, David Davies lifted Cents to a 7-4 win. The trio totalled two goals and three assists. After a scoreless first frame, Dave Garagan - struck for Parry Sound on the power play at 2:28. Midland went on a bit of a rampage eight minutes later as Daryl Belcourt put Legion midgets Capture trophy Midland Legion Branch 80 Midgets won the Fenelon Falls Midget Hockey Tourna- ment on the weekend in rather convincing style. In their first encounter, Midland had little trouble as they swept to host Fenelon Falls | 9-2. Tyler French opened the scoring for the - Legion 70 seconds into the contest with help - from Brad Wadge and Mike Larmand. Billy Meridis gave Midland a 2-0 lead at the 1:09 mark on a play with Wadge and Jeff Baguley. Russell Rudat connected on a solo effort in the second. Two minutes later, Meridis struck again for a 4-0 lead with Steve Bressette and Rick Knibbs assisting. Fenelon Falls got on the scoreboard at 4:56, but Rudat replied for Midland 49 seconds later with Steve Summers and Baguley assisting giving Branch 80 a 5-1 lead going into the final frame. Meridis connected with Mike Larmand and Steve Bressette assisting just over a minute into the third period. Shawn Potter clicked 17 seconds later on a play with An- drew Adam. Larmand increased Midland's lead to 8-1 at 5:37, with Wadge in on the play. Fenelon Falls scored their second marker of the contest with less than three minutes re- maining, but Midland retaliated with just 12 seconds left on the clock as French record- ed his second of the contest, Wadge assisting. Chris Hackney handled the goaltending chores very capably. Midland was assessed six minors in the game to seven for Fenelon Falls. In their second game of the tournament, the Legion Midgets faced off against Dunn- ville and came up with a 4-1 victory bolstered by the two goal, one assist performance of Brad Wadge. Both teams skated through a scoreless first frame, but Wadge broke the goose egg at 6:08 of the second stanza assisted by Tobey Dusome: Dunnville knotted the score at the one minute mark, before Steve Bressette regain- ed the lead for Midland 19 seconds later. Wadge clicked again opening the third with Mike Larmand in on the play at the 6:16 mark. Larmand finished the scoring a scant nine seconds later assisted by Tyler french and Wadge. Mike Player turned away all but one of Dunnville's shots in the Legion net. Midland once again stuck to playing hockey and received only two penalties to four for the opposition. Midland Legion Midgets met London in the championship encounter. Mike Larmand banged the puck home midway in the open- ing session for a 1-0 lead, assisted by Steve Summers. Bill Meridis clicked for a 2-0 lead with 43 seconds remaining on the clock in the second stanza, assisted by Steve Bressette and Larmand. The third frame was blanked giving Midland Legion the game and the Champion-: ship Trophy. Chris Hackney recorded the shutout between the pipes. Midland served 'eight minutes in the sin bin compared with 14 minutes for London. Midland on the board on the power play from Bob Fortin and Archie Meridis. Half a minute later, Fortin clicked on the power play with Quilty, and then Brent Insley click- ed ona play with Quilty and Chris Edwards at 5:31. Gieseler rounded out the second period scoring as he connected at the 3:48 mark from Belcourt. Garagan found the range again at 17:35 of the final frame with a short handed effort. Steve Molyneaux brought the Shamrocks to within a goal seven minutes later, only to have Jeff Douglas combine with Meridis and Pat Marchand for a 5-3 Midland lead at 7:35. Owen Quilty drilled one home only 24 seconds later from Belcourt and David Davies. Garagan scored again for the Spunders at 5:05, but Belcourt clicked with a shorthanded goal at 1:41 from Rob Fortin and goaltender Kevin Clark to complete the 7-4 victorv. BOOM! Penetang Kings' Mike Magloughlin let a blistering drive go at the Gravenhurst Indian goaltender at the Penetang Arena Friday night in Georgian Bay Junior C hockey ac- tion. Magloughlin enjoyed a three point night with a goal and two assists in helping his team to a 12-5 win. On the chase A Midland Stoneleigh forward puts the bums rush on an unsuspecting Innisfil Bruin in Fri- day night's Junior C encounter at Centennial Arena.
