On Thursday, Jan. 8 Driftwood hosted Coll- ingwood Pee Wees in a G.B.M.H.A. league game that saw both teams battle it out for third place in league standings. Coll- ingwood struck for the first two goals of the game before Penetang mounted an offensice surge of their own by scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead after one full period of play. Scoring for Driftwood were Chris Mar- childon from Adrian Maurice, Francois Charlebois who scored an unassisted tally and Tim yy Cross check Maheu who set up by Maurice and Marchildon. The game, which was a real see-saw affair, con- tinued on in the second period in a similar fashion with both teams showing their offence but forgetting about their defensive play. This was the type of game that gives coaches the op- portunity to use Grecian Formula well before they want to. Chris Vallee made it 4-2 for Penetang early in the second period after he was set up by Chris Diesveld. At this point in the game, it appeared that Driftwood was beginning to take control, but a brief defensive lapse by the local boys saw Collingwood score three goals within a six minute span to regain the lead by a 5-4 score. Dave Parent, Dave Robillard and Brian Roy each had two goals for R and R, with Ken Forget chipping in with a single marker. I.D.A. replied with two goals from Martial Marion and singles from the sticks of Rick Gordon, Dave Miller, lead, thim time by a 6-5 margin. Scoring Drift- wood's fifth and tieing goal was Tim Mason who real- ly went to work offensive- ly. in the third by scoring four goals. Adrian Maurice was given the assist on Mason's first goal. A few minutes later, Mason scored Driftwood's sixth goal to knot the game once again, but moments later, Collingwood went ahead. Maheu and Charlebois were given assists on Drift- wood's sixth goal. Minutes later, it was Mason again who scored to complete his hat-trick and the game was knotted at seven. The game was up for grabs late in the period before Driftwood scored three quick unanswered goals to cap the win by a 10-7 score. Scoring the eventual winner was David Brooks on an unassisted ef- fort as he blasted in a shot from the point. Tim Maheu scored his second goal of four minutes remaining from Mason who drew the assist. The final goal of the game was scored by Mason with only 1:43 left on the score clock after he was set up by Billy Leonard and Francois Charlebois. Shar- ing the goal-tending duties, and the barrage of shots that never seemed to stop throughout the game, were Driftwood goalies Claude Vallee and Scott Galt who played well despite the high score.
