Owen YMCA creating jobs The Midland YMCA will be operating a Job Develop- ment Program for Child Care Workers beginning Jan. 26, after receiving Federal Grant approval from Employment and Im- migration Canada late last December. The funds, totalling $128,000 will create a pro- gram intent on providing selected candidates with theoretical and practical training spread over 52 weeks. With a program em- phasis on developing the students' knowledge, skills and attitudes, it is hoped that successful graduates will find full-time perma- nent employment in the labour force as child care assistants. Mary Lynn Beauvais, a member of the YMCA staff and a qualified early childhood educator, will be handling the majority of the training seminars. Other YMCA staff and various consultants from the community will be of- fering their assistance and expertise. Julie Leavens has been appointed program co- ordinator, and will be con- tinuing her role as fitness leader and consultant. The project staff are con- fident the program will be a hugh success and rewar- ding to all involved. Here we grow again!
