Peewees fall short The Penetanguishene Driftwood Major Pee Wees saw a good deal of hockey action over the past weekend, but in the three games they played they could not manage even one win. Saturday, January 17th, Driftwood played their first game in the South Muskoka Tournament and came up short to the host club Gravenhursst by a 4-3 score. Scoring for Penetanguishene were Chris Diesveld from Tim Maheu and Chris Vallee, Kirk Rushton from Diesveld and Maheu, and Chris Marchildon from Adrian Maurice. With the loss, Driftwood was relegated to the Consola- tion Series and played Huntsville on Sunday January 18th. Once again it was one goal too fee as Huntsville downed the local team by a 3-2 score despite some goal-tending by the Penetang tandem of Scott Galt and Claude Vallee. Driftwood's two goals were scored by Chris Diesveld from Dwayne Johnson and Francois Charlebois scored a pretty unassisted goal late in the game for his team. Later in the day, Drift- wood returned home to host Owen Sound in a regularly scheduled league game and despite a fine ef- fort, the boys were not quite able to make an upsetting comeback after being down by three goals late in the first period. Owen Sound managed to hold on to a 6-4 win even though they were out- played in the third period. In the game, Driftwood scored first with only 44 seconds having ticked off the clock as Francois Charlebois scored on a hard blast. Both Chris Mar- childon and Tim Mason were given assists on Charlebois' goal. Owen Sound replied with four unanswered goals to take a Redskins The senoir Lady Red- skins volleyball team started slowly but finished strong in Saturday's Midland Volleyball Club tournament. Owen Sound made it 5-2 early in the second period, but Tim Maheau narrowed the gap to 5-3 less than a minute later. Just before the break after the second period, Owen Sound went up by a 6-3 lead and it wasn't until five minutes into the third period before Dwayne Johnson scored Driftwood's fourth and final goal. A few hit goal posts late in the game made the difference in this contest as Penetang did have their chances to tie the game. take 2nd Coaches Craig Hawkins and Tony Schultze were pleased with the team's play during the tourna- ment. "We still have a few minor wrinkles to work out" said coach Hawkins, "but I think we have most of the major problems iron- ed out'. After losing a close game to Boatworks festivities for Superbowl Yes ladies, it's that time of the year again. That dreaded day when it's more impossible than ever to move that unshaven, unkempt, beer belly of a dreamboat you married when you had a weak mo- ment years ago. He will be glued to the front of the family televi- sion set, a prisoner of a type of cult that normally affects only men. Somewhere in there might be proof that women are, in fact, the superior of the two. Anyway ladies, we have a solution for you. Take your husband (the dream- boat that he is) to the Midland Boatworks Restaurant on Super Bowl Sunday. The Boatworks will have a large screen plus their regular television sets scattered throughout the building. Stadium snacks will be offered and passing and kicking con- tests for prizes will be another feature. Look at it this way ladies, you can enter the kicking contests and hold the ball for your husband, and when he goes to kick, pull the ball back a la Charlie Brown. An opportune (and legal) way of getting back at dreamboat for selling you a bill of goods. At half time, the Boat- works will be showing a video entitled 'Football Follies'. The five competitors, Anthony Swick, Andre Laurin, Gig Leader, Dave Merkeley and _ Keith Robillard showed grace and speed as they raced the Grand Slalom on the icy slopes of Mogul Valley. No trophies were won but out of 110 boys, Andre Laurin came 50th, with Dave Merkeley and An- thony Swick following close behind. Keith Robillard (daredevil) and Gig Leader finished a few seconds behind. The coach Frank Matys, was more than pleased with the team's overall ef- fort. With more practice they'll be ready for the next one.
