Site'41, Johnson's Farm, has been deemed unaccep- table by the group. "If this is supposed to be the best site in North Sim- coe...right in the middle of prime agricultrual land, bursting with artesian wells draining quickly into the Wye River, and sitting directly over the Alliston Aquafer, one has to wonder if there is any place in this area that is suitable for a dump site," says John McCullough, Why W.Y.E.'s chairperson. The group was formed in January to oppose site 41 and has an active member- sip of 75, including 15 associate memebers. Voting members of the group come from the 130 families who have proper- ty within a three kilometre radius of the site. Associate members are concerned members within Simcoe County. The group must submit its response to the N.S.W.M.A.'s draft by April 17. make concerns me somewhat that we are be- ing asked to respond to something that has not ~ AAS AAS been completed,' says McCullough of N.S.W.M.A.'s draft. Some concerns about site 41 raised at last Thurs- day night's meeting in Wyevale are that the pro- posed site is on prime agricultural land, it uses as its basis a draft report on agriculture many members consider a shoddy piece of work that doesn't discuss all aspects of farming and the draft hasn't studied all alternatives available. There is also concern that an estimated 112 vehicles will travel to the landfill site daily if it is ap- proved, meaning farm machinery and people on horseback will share the road with dump trucks. SSSI "There's definately a threat to life and limb," says Sharon Lapham, the association's vice-chairperson. The group has found support amongst several local groups, including Saurin Women's Institute, 'Saint Marie Among the Hurons and Wye Marsh. Why W.Y.E. is in the midst of a membership drive and is raising money for its fight against the ap- proval of site 41. Fund raisers include a dance and bake and craft sales slated for May. The . group's_ next meeting will be May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wyevale United Church Hall.
