Three divers landed as part of Porterama's an- nual Spring Festival. Allan McLean, Simcoe East MPP introduced two private member's bills which will, if passed, eliminate retirement allowances for a person en- titled to them if that person is employed and/or receiv- ing other compensation from the public service or other government agencies. The purpose of McLean's bills is to end a practice - commonly refer- red to as "double dipping" - where people, who are receiving retirement pen- sions from the government are also being paid as a member of another govern- ment commission, commit- tee, board or other agency. McLean actually presented two private member's bills. One deals with elected officials while the other focuses on civil servants. He said it is morally wrong for people retiring on pensions to use the 'in- side track' to appoint- ments. McLean said he believes there are plenty of capable people in Ontario with little or no pension who could qualify for these appointments. This 'double dipping' is improper, McLean says, and in such a case, that person's government pen- sion should be withheld . New manager soon has to come to an agree- been "a change of plan, of ment on the work that it heart," about how the wants its new employee to manager should function, do, Downer said.
